They aid science in discovering new things. The best zoos have simulated habitats and no performances (besides sea lion feeding time). The next time you go to the zoo, round up your admission to the nearest ten dollars and refuse to accept your change. If you're ever in Albuquerque, NM, come to the Rio Grande Zoo and see how it's done right. Circuses, on the other hand, turn my stomach.
