I am so stoked I came across these comics. I was getting really bored with PVP and Penny Arcade and their like, when I decided to look for something with a little more depth. I am enjoying the ride, especially as you don’t feel the need to explain anything. Im not sure why this reminds me of the movies I used to watch when I was a kid during the school holidays. Relaxed and not in any hurry to get to the conclusion. And as an artist Im loving all the eye candy.
@Esn – I think the eyes are still black – it’s just that he was scared in the second panel so they got really big and cartoonish. Panels 3 and 4 show the eyes as you like them.
Great work – you’re my current webcomic hero, Karl. Any plans for merchandise? I’d kill for a graphic of The A.C.C. himself (like in the title panel) done in a single color on a vintage-esque T-shirt…
I just barely posted on comic 17, but I want to reassert this: your art reminds me so much of Calvin and Hobbes, which is really the only comic strip I’ve ever felt any sort of emotional attachment to. I’ve always wanted something like it to come around and this seems to be the very thing. Thanks Karl.
I got here from Dinosaur Comics, too… This is really all an amazing piece of work. I’m definitely sticking around.
And, for the sake of being able to say something NEW, for once, have you ever read Bone? By Jeff Smith? Something about this comic reminds me of Bone, but I can’t put my finger on what it is.
I’m here from Dinosaur Comics too.
This is amazing work. Your integration of unique, gorgeous art and great lines is very refreshing.
I think I’ve laughed out loud or been slightly in awe for every comic.
cheers!!
I already knew of this site long before Ryan North found it, but I also read Dinosaur Comics, so it was cool to see him mention you. Word of mouth at work here. :)
For my part, I mentioned your work to the artist who draws “Zip and Bit”, which is another wonderfully imaginative webcomic.
Like Doc, I came here from Dinosaur Comics, and was reminded of Bone as well. I’m really looking forward to following this comic. The art and humor is just incredibly well done!
Beautiful, as usual! Just a simple moment, no need for explanation. I love the way you seem to be doing this organically. It’s something that really appeals to me.
I came from Dinosaur Comics as well. I’ve been trying to lighten up, relax, fill my life with more humor. This has been perfect, and always leaves me feeling happier than when I arrived. It’s all so simple, but has such depth. Thanks for sharing your gifts and talents.
To join the Jesus Jones chorus, this is truly beautiful and brilliant work – thank you for sharing it. I’m always eagerly awaiting the next installment.
wow. I came over from BNS. This comic is truly art. I am glad to have been led to it. Karl, great work on BNS and thank you for this strip. Wonderful.
:)
kudos on the continuing perfection of expressions in this comic, also i love the subtle stuff like how Charles fur bristles in that second panel, hope you keep up this amazing standard of work
I know people have been saying that this reminds them of Calvin and Hobbes, but this is the first strip that’s really reminded me of it. Although I’m not sure who’s who. I think the fox is Calvin. *g*
Ahh, this is so cute! I discovered this strip upon finding Anders <3 Maria, which I found from Questionable Content. Every single update is absolutely amazing, and I’m going back and reading through the archives right now. I love the adorable little snow fox, and Charles’ expressions. He’s such a good person! I’m so glad that I found this strip–law school is painfully stressful, and these little updates are a real relief.
I’ll never understand how the gifted artist achieves what they do. Abject terror should be damn near impossible to convey with such simple eyes.
Well done. Loving the strip so far. You are seriously talented.
I like it a lot.
Somebody tell me though… why is Charles going up? The Moon Bear put him on this mountain but why should he climb up rather than say down?

Yay! The return of Bravado the Arctic Fox! (That’s what I call him in my head, see…)
January 23rd, 2008 at 5:07 pm
I love the interaction between Charles and the fox. They seem like old friends even though they just met!
January 23rd, 2008 at 5:34 pm
that fox cracks me up. Love this comic.

The fox is as scared as Charles!
January 23rd, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Hmm… I liked the fox’s eyes better in strip #24, when they were black. Something about this current design is just a bit less lovable.
The last panel’s very funny, though.

Pretty as usual…I’m chaffing at the bit for a strip that updates the Moonbear thing though.

Great. That typical reaction, to laugh after being scared. Don’t forget about Tivol.

Vizzini: “can’t you go any faster?”
Fezzik: “I thought I WAS going faster!”
Vizzini: “I just going to have to find myself a new giant.”
first thing that came to mind :)
