I was re-reading the archives today, and I couldn't help but notice something: This Enigmatic Lion reminds me very much of Rock Jaw, a character who appears in the Bone saga. They're both lions, not much about their motives is explained, and both of them seem to have the same refined mannerisms and pretentions of being guardians, of sorts.

By the way, might I add that I love the way our feline friend looks in panel two? He's shooting an almost... fatherly look at our CC.

Sgt. Howard; how dare you call "George of the Jungle" a shoddy movie!

*cough*

Echoes of Ferngully in that last panel. Which is no bad thing.

Are we going to get to meet Ms Nature herself I wonder...

I have loved every installment, "subplot" and thread of this comic and I do not even want to try and predict its further developments... I would not even talk of "story arcs", as the comic seems to follow the wandering nature of our good Charles' simple mind.
And I think Karl is softly brushing his way in a beautiful multi-paneled, multi-layered picture.
We have the lyyric and magic moment as well as the "you must leave room in your heart for revenge" (as opposed to "for sorrow") and the Mountain Lion's beautiful line from this ish, which combined with the pic and given its "timing" is absolutely stunning. Man, we do not need no Peter Jackson or Steven Spielberg, when we have such a Karl Kerschl!
I think Karl is not only a great artit, but an amazing writer/storyteller stretching his wings! Can't wait for his upcoming OGN!
Good job Karl, and thanks for publishing this free!

wow- toss a bit of satire to the crowd and they return with pitchforks and torches... if Karl DID do the plot as I had described, I would also loose interest. There's a great deal of this comic that flies right over my head, and that in itself impresses the bejaspers out of me. The extent of my commentary was aimed at the notion that circumstances pointed in a well-worn direction, one that I have read in countless paperbacks and more than a few shoddy movies. I HIGHLY doubt Karl has spent this much effort and talent to take us there. My humor is a bit of abrasive I'll grant you-but I doubt Karl (who is clever enough to create this story) has taken my commentary with any amount of concern and more than likely (I would hope) a few chuckles at the absurdity presented.
BTW- I do not indulge in caffein, alcohol, tobbacco or illicit drugs. I am this way naturally

Just one phrase for you, Howard. If the plot for this comic would really develop as you described, I'd IMMEDIATELY stop reading it and forget it existed.

Caveman/KingKong/Tarzan/Wathever meets pretty cute fanservice woman has already been done and seen a lot of times.... also, it really would NEVER fit this webcomic.

Then again, I'm 100% sure Karl know his stuff, and he's actually planning a story development as awesome as the comic has been so far. :P

What...the...hey Howard...DECALF!

Are we reading the same comic? Do you really see Christopher as "big, dumb, harmless, and hairy" ? Ok...I'll give you big and hairy, but that's where the correlations stop.

The idea of turning this gentle honest creature into some kind of "sensitive new age guy" who has to lose a friend to murder so that he can go on a rampage for the sake of vengeance made me slightly ill. I suspect he will be required to fight one day. I fear such fighting will include losses of characters we already hold dear. But to cheapen it to a blood-based tit-for-tat is horrible, and to just assume that every human in that town (except your luckless beast-infatuated wench) is evil and needs "killing" is worse.

I do not see any aspects of "Chutzpah" in the sweet little fox who was terrified of the wind either. He has the (very) vocal inquisitive traits of a young child, not the unmitigated bravado and gall one would normally label with such a word as "Chutzpah."

And while I'm on the topic of feeling the need to lambast someone else's post (engaging in the delusion that anyone cares what I think), what...the...hooey...is "imagen" ?!?

I can't even agree that the idea of Charles Christopher on a rampage to avenge a murdered friend sounds too "Luddite" -- if you'd chosen *that* reference correctly, then the battle would be one of artisans against manufacturers or tradition vs. progress. I don't think that's where Karl is taking us at all (at least I hope there's more depth to the story than that), and anyway the Luddites were a bunch of industrial terrorists who used "our way of life is threatened" as an excuse to engage in destructive and ultimately impotent violence.

I feel like I've got to get dusty old books on Ceremonial Magick(tm) and do complicated dangerous rituals to make sure people like you never - ever - have any influence on Karl's otherwise wonderful story! Eeeeeesh!

ACC will undoubtably have a MAJOR culture clash with New-York-on-the-swannie inhabitants, there will be a tender moment with a female of questionable virtue who is overwhelmed with a male that listens to her, does not interrupt and NEVER hits her... might even be taught to do the dishes, but I think the vacume would be too frightening, I don't know... a few encounters with John Law where he causes more havoc by frightened response than intentional effort... imagen trying to read him his rights... Chutzpah enters the 'burg and becomes a pelt (neck wrap?), causing ACC to go gunnysack/postal and you see tactics appropriate for Warner Brother's Tasmanian Devil as he goes on a rampage... no, that sounds too Luddite, too simplistic... but I do like the idea of his encountering a down-on-her-luck female who winds up hopelessly smitten by the big, dumb, harmless & hairy beast... probably not the first time she had dated out of her species, given the flora and fauna of a big city...

Good point Louisa. Karl, thank you for this beautiful comic.

From the panels here, there's no real indication CC has even got to associate with humans - the Lion just wants him to persuade Nature, whateverthehell that is... though I'm happy to be proved completely and utterly wrong in whichever comic fashion Karl decides.
