i love the turn this has taken! i just pulled an all nighter writing my term paper on fairytales and their modern usage, and this is so refreshing from just having analyzed all of disney’s abuses.

For some reason, I am reminded of Enkil, Gilgamesh’s companion. I guess the city looks like it could be in ancient Sumeria. Anyhow, the storytelling in this work is sublime. Thank you. It should be an interesting journey
@Mr. Paradox, TRUE. The designs could be Sumarian, although with domes that wide, I would say we’re talking about Italy, maybe even Renaissance era. What I love, though, is the QUEST. The three points. Now, I’m Irish, so I’m going back to the tales my Nana used to tell. I know this particular form of storytelling goes back to Scheherazade, but I have to love how this story is turning that format on its ass. In the classic tales, the protagonist acquires the necessary factors through brains and trickery. But CC has only desperation and brute-ass strength. And Bravado.
Hi, i just found your comic today through ramons site (BNS) i read alot of web comics and yours is absolutely beautiful with really compelling characters and an intriguing story :) I just finished uni for the summer and ur comic just sums up my awesome mood :D
That lion is obviously magic of some sort. I’m sure he’ll figure that out. Also, the fox will always be called bravado. It’ll be a way to tell new readers. they’ll know his “real” name, assuming it’s not Bravado.
Well so far we’ve had no reason to believe Charles can understand anything anyone has said to him, have we? He didn’t understand the bee, and he’s not actually responded to anybody… Maybe he just likes listening to Mr Lion, lol.
Hmmm, somehow I think that’s three more things than Charles can actually remember, assuming he can actually understand the lion. Maybe his little fox friend can help (though Bravado seems to have all the attention span of a pair of puppies)..
That looks exactly like the Hagia Sophia to me, and the city’s location near the water backs that up (but near the mountains?. If Istanbul is ruled by a King, but we’re in the age of the railcar, then that narrows the date of the story quite a bit, as the Ottoman Empire came to an end in 1922.
But that’s a guess, as the Hagia Sophia has been copied a few times in other cities. The game was fun, though.
I’m not even going to try and guess how Charles will bring back any of these things. Or he even manages to get going on the quest. Bravado might side track him with something shiny…

I don’t think the Lion is creepy, just very serious. I am thinking this strip is about to take a dark turn. I can hardly wait to see where it leads.

That much smog wouldn’t have been emitting from an “old” city, I think, so I assumed that the story’s in the modern time period.
