Interesting mixture of animals. And they talk! Ahh, the hero's quest. And for items of power over the Lord of the Manor to gain control of him. Magic talismans--1)A lock of the king's hair [body part],2)token of his faith [occult power] and 3)his name and then the triad of his body, spirituality and personhood will be under the command of the lion.

And an unusual creature to do it. Powerful yet sensitive, curious yet shy, fearful yet bold. The package of opposites, so much like humanity.

The city scape reminds me of the Naboo planetary capital in general lay out. I always liked the design of the Naboo cities.

Heyyyy I see an allegory to the Bible coming on. Moses was sent to Egypt even though he had a speech impediment. The lion is God, like C S Lewis's Aslan? Ok maybe I'm horribly off, but it makes sense to me.
Love the artwork, Mr. Kerschl.

I'm not even going to try and guess how Charles will bring back any of these things. Or he even manages to get going on the quest. Bravado might side track him with something shiny...

How on Earth is he going to tell the lion the king's name if he finds it?

I smell witchcraft. The lion is a with/warlock.

This is like a great little fairytale.

I thought of Istanbul when I saw the picture, too, but I think the story is not necessarily in our when/where.

That looks exactly like the Hagia Sophia to me, and the city's location near the water backs that up (but near the mountains?. If Istanbul is ruled by a King, but we're in the age of the railcar, then that narrows the date of the story quite a bit, as the Ottoman Empire came to an end in 1922.

But that's a guess, as the Hagia Sophia has been copied a few times in other cities. The game was fun, though.

Hmmm, somehow I think that's three more things than Charles can actually remember, assuming he can actually understand the lion. Maybe his little fox friend can help (though Bravado seems to have all the attention span of a pair of puppies)..

I just love the strong fairy tale motifs you've added in those three requests. The last is particularly resonant. A name in fairy lore is so powerful...
