What’s in a Name

This strip was actually meant to be twice as long, but I got stuck in a rainstorm as I was motorcycling back from Toronto yesterday and had to stay in a hotel. I didn’t have time to draw the other half. SO… to make up for it, I’ll post the second part on Friday! That’s like getting two strips in one week, right? Right?

Stay tuned. Things are about to get crazy.

57 Abominable Comments!

  1. Vikki

Oh, now that’s just being a tease! (Dangling a second strip AND the foggy dialogue!)

    Poor Bravado.

  2. SS

    Two strips? Right!

As for the ominous foreshadowing: we have a grasshopper to take care of the crazies.

  3. Glen

things are about to get crazy… CRAZY GOOD!!!

  4. Ryan

Do I see the word ’semen’ in there? :-*

  5. Charlie

Oh man, I really wish I knew what he said!

Great work, Karl. Keep it up.

  6. Kevin

xD More like seven, if you ask me.

  7. Kathleen

my guess? “one of my seven children…” that’s what I got.

  8. Chadwick

Just read up to date. Very intrigueing (sp?) so far. Love your art style. Looking forward to more.

  9. Laurel

Wow, I’m really loving this comic!
You really inspire me, and I’m on the edge of anticipation for the next plot development!

  10. JohnIves

I make it out as: “Charles… [illegible]… one of my seven. A word [possibly 'world'] of [illegible].”

  11. Mel

    I don’t think it’s “children”, the first character doesn’t look much like a C

  12. EshuElegbara

It’s certainly “one of my seven” something, but that doesn’t look like “children” to me. I can’t quite make it out, but it looks like it begins with an A. Hm… Jinkies, gang! It looks like we’re up to our ascots in another mystery!

  13. redapples

Rainstorm you say? So thats what happened to the lettering in panel 2. ;-D

  14. Usivius

(just guessing, but: The CIRCUS! He’s going to the circus!!!

    … OMG…

  15. mo

This is great! I love how much discussion can be sparked by a foggy balloon bubble.

I love this comic– exquisitely drawn, clever writing, and intriguing characters. Please keep up the good work! can’t wait for tomorrow.

  16. sco3tt

And in todays 2nd panel, the role of the lion will be played by Kenny McCormick!

    Must be sweeps week.

  17. Ra

    he looks like a townsen

  18. Laurel

what about “one of my seven abominable sons”?
    probably not.

  19. Esn

    That’s sweet. Charles isn’t a stranger. :)

But it almost seems like the fox is being left behind…

  20. vileseagulls

Townsen! That is adorable, and he really does look like a Townsen.

  21. Ruadre

Somebody needs to hug that fox

  22. andre

I love the timing on that – “It’s Towsend!”

This strip is so great. I hope it sees print someday. Id buy it in a heartbeat.

  23. andre

    oops i mean “Townsen”

  24. eric hews

Charles has a [whispered!] Quest. Sweet.

  25. Nyss

Well there we go. Townsen. Cute. Though his nickname shall always be Bravado to me c.c

  26. Kabuki

Townsen is good…. But I still Like Bravado. Perhaps its Townsen Bravado Whitefox? I mean, *I* have a middle name…

  27. Glen

Heh, or Townsen “Bravado” Whitefox, just make Bravado its nickname yo.

  28. Sylvia

    AW! *sniffle*

  29. Buho

He’s still Bravado to me :(

  30. Esn

You know… speaking as someone who does a bit of climbing sometimes, that descent looks REALLY dangerous.

  31. Kate

Awe, that was alittle punch of cutness to distract me from the conversation between the lion and Charles. Townsen is adorable. ^-^

  32. Jobot

It’s like a candy-coated bundle of vivrance splattering all over my day.

  33. Vikki

    Aww, I love that fox.

And I love the way Charles is climbing down that cliff. Like a two-year old goes down the stairs: Backwards and feet first.

  34. Magsby

I seriously love Townsen so much. Every time he’s in the strip I have at least moment where I have to say “Aww!” out loud.

  35. JohnIves

Esn: Charles probably has the upper body strength of a gorilla. I’m sure he can make it.

  36. Esn

    Vikki:

That’s the way one goes down a cliff. You don’t go down a cliff with your back to the wall, because neither your hands nor your feet work very well backwards…

  37. Kya

It’s so nice to be caught up on a strip, but… Waiting for the next one is hard +_+

  38. laurajs

how was bravado made up? Townsen awww

  39. starscream99

I really, really love this comic and your style, kudos to you.

  40. katada

aww bravado has a real name.. i was hoping you’d leave him nameless and he could continue being the unnamed bravado in our hearts… thoguh out of all the names you could’ve picked… i reaaly like Townsen so you’re forgiven and adored.

  41. Abominable Brasil

    Townsen is the best…

    Christian

  42. Chris

He doesn’t look much like a Townsen.

I like Bravado. Don’t know how that name came about, but it fits.

  43. Tom Bubb

Bravado doesn’t sound like an actual name guys it’s just a description. I like Townsen a lot better I think it suits him.

  44. Okiedokie

Townsen is too cute. And I trully love your art and your inks.

  45. Jessica

I like Townsen, it’s quirky and adorable. Like the fox.

  46. Chip

    Perfect! As always.

  47. ketsuo

Townsen rocks!! i want one !! XD

  48. joel

Simply brilliant. I have yet to see anything of yours that failed to instill awe.

  49. james

Townsen just wants to be friends… dont leave him behind…

  50. Razor

Good grief if that fox gets more adorable, this comic would have to be outlawed.

    Townsen. <3

  51. Margaret

Why are there still retards calling him Bravado? His name is what the author says. If you wanna call a character what you want, then make up your own freakin’ story.

  52. agix

Why would anyone assume the mess in the bubble is supposed to say something? What is the lion saying to charles? Go back a few strips to where the lion is talking to charles; that’s what he’s saying. This strip is showing the same event from Townsen’s perspective (he can’t hear what the lion is saying, he can only tell that the lion is saying something, the same way we can’t tell what the lion is saying, only that he is saying something). It’s just a slightly more sophisticated version of putting “whisper whisper” in standard-onomatopeia-font. Looks like it was a wasted effort -.-

  53. Aerliss

Wow, anger sparked by the fact some of us might continue to call a character by the loving nickname he has been given by the community? I think I’m gonna stop reading the comments, they seem to be getting more and more hate filled; this comic is far too adorable for such things.

And people are assuming the lion is saying something different because it looks like something different to what he has been saying. *sigh*

  54. Qito

    I’ll call him Pete ♥

  55. Krypter

    Beautiful stuff. Excellent pathos.

  56. quinn

We all have big changes in our lives that are more or less a second chance.

  57. Ai

    I…LOVE that fox.
