Scapecat
June 22nd, 2008
For those of you wondering why my Wednesday updates have been arriving later and later in the day, this is the reason:

Meet Cousteau, our new kitten. He sits directly on top of whatever I happen to be working on. As proof, here he is on top of last week’s episode of Charles Christopher.
I can’t work like this. He’s completely unprofessional.

What a cute kitten. I have a twelve year old cat that still sits on anything I’m working on. It is so endearing… And Cousteau is a great name too.

Haha…
You’ll just have to be glad you don’t have two of him. I guess you’ll have to learn to work around him. Get two pieces of paper, one for him and one for you.

If by “completely unprofessional” you mean “utterly adorable”, I agree. Aaaw.

Cousteau ? Like le Commandant Cousteau ? Does he like diving ? Or wearing a red knitted cap ?

*chuckle*
Looks like that little one wants to be hugged or softly scratched behind the ears.

Don’t let the appearances trick you.
This cat is EVIL!

No, no, no — he’s a totally professional *cat* – this is their job; this is what they are born to *do*. Soon he will add pen wrangling and chewing to his resume like mine has – only the one I’m actually trying to use though (mine would also cover that page almost completely).

Ohhhhhhh! Adorable! :D
I have two birds who accompany me when I’m drawing, but fortunately they’re content to just sleep on my lap. However, if they’re off playing I have to make sure no paper is within waddling distance — they liked to chew on the edges of original art and comics!

I added an L and made it Inspector Clouseau. But underwater adventurer works as well.
My cat does this too. I try to lure him away but sometimes I’m rude and move him along as necessary.

mine use to do that too. cute AND annoying at the same time — thus, you have cats in a nutshell.
But as pd walker says: one paper for you and one for the kitten = both happy.
:)

Your work has always been waiting for – and now even more so! Kitties always get a pass.

I used to have a cat with those socks. :D
My german shepherd likes to walk in between me and the computer, over and over again. Good thing Cousteau isn’t big enough to do that. xP

If it’s riveted your attention, it MUST be worth his, right? Cats never get tired of trying to figure out just what you’re so fascinated by.

I would not be too upset if you just half-drew each strip and then presented instead a photo of Costeau on top of it instead.

My dog found a stray kitten once, she brought it home, and we kept it in the house for many years. However, since it was the dog’s cat, we never named it (not even calling it “Cat”). It was just the cat in our house to us, but our dog absolutely loved it. She’d put the cat’s head in her mouth and carry it around, while the cat just hung there looking bored and/or slightly annoyed. It was also totally adorable watching this little cat stand on the coffee table for height so she could kick the crap out of a big German shepherd mix when they were play-fighting.
But the funniest thing that cat would do is sit in the sink and watch the faucet drip. That would keep her utterly fascinated for HOURS. She was also annoyingly obsessed with sleeping on my keyboard whenever I wanted to use the computer. I finally had to hot-glue a basket to the top of my computer monitor to satisfy her need to be ON my work, while still allowing me to get some work done.
Try that trick, it might help.

Cousteau is standing on it.

AWWW kittens so cute. i have one that looks a lot like Cousteau… her name is Mouse.. she was the runt.. and isnt the grey just perfect for a mouse?

Xena bumps her head under my elbow while I ink. I think they reason: what’s the point of being fluffy if you don’t annoy with impunity?

What a most wonderful reason for lateness.

While I have experienced the greatness of Cousteau first hand, I think you are all overlooking the super wicked awesomeness of a beedance oriented cartoon.

Just be thankful you’re not trying to complete a jigsaw. :)
Our neighbour has two Siamese kittens, and she’s a puzzle nut. They just LOVE to sit in the pieces box, and nibble any approaching fingers.

Cousteau reminds me of the sweetest, smartest cat who was ever my friend. He was nearly a dead ringer for your Cousteau – a gray tuxedo, even the same shade. He also needed to be where I was, and would always sleep contentedly on the printer. Back then we had a monster HP laser printer with a paper tray big enough for a 14 lb cat to nestle in quite comfortably. Naturally the Hewlett Packard people had him in mind when they designed it specifically to warm his tush.

Proof that a picture of a cute kitten will get your more comments than anything known to man. :]
