Nifty cliffhanger, gonna keep me hooked for the resolution. *gg*
But – if I ‘ve got my analysis about how this comic works is right, there might be some digression ere we’ll be served what poor Townsen ’s been so scared that he’s got his pants in a twist quite literally.
I have the feeling that even if a character dies, he might still be around, ala Joss Whedon. Buffy died several times and it didn’t keep her out of the ongoing story.
Scary ! Almost don’t want to see next weeks’ panel . You sure know how to hang us out Karl . But – then again – that is what you have been doing the entire series . I agree with all the comments readers have made about Townsen – he also has a warm spot in my heart .
I love the way I had to scan the thing twice — once to get to the end and make sure he was ok (at least for now) and again to catch the ghostly images and shadows.
Hi Karl, my wife and I love your comic. She doesn’t normally read comics, let alone comics online – but when I showed her yours, we sat together and read from start to finish and then went back to a few of our favorites…. which leaves us kinda spoiled and grumpy now that we have to wait each week for new installments like everyone else. :P
I love the tension you built in just a few panels. And you have a talent for making me remember this strip in more colors without having used a full palette.
Out steps TACC with a bear trap and club and saves Townsen!
Or I’ll trans-dimensional-travel to that universe and drop from the trees to KravMaga that shadow into submission then beat him down with his own crossbow/stick/prybar or whatever it’s got.
This comic is simply amazing! Karl seriously has talent to be able to express such emotion from animals and really create a brooding and complex story.
The artwork is simply fantastic! I find myself coming back every other day only to be dissapointed it isn’t wednesday :’(
oh man, not the GR! i *do* fear the reaper, darnit. poor Townsen. now i’m going to be on edge until next week and probably longer, because we’ll get another story before coming back to this one.
Nah, I’m 100% sure that the little foxy is definitely not going to die. Authors never have the guts to kill off their most popular characters. Which is unfortunate because doing THAT would actually mean being an author with the guts.
I just adore this comic so far. A friend linked me to it and I just spent the last…however long it took reading from Episode 1 to this latest one.
And now I’m cliffhanged! I can’t wait to see the next one.
I cannot count the number of times this comic has made me say “aww” either in an “aww cute” way or an “aww that’s sad” way. Usually comics are full of one liners. Yours is funny without making a joke every episode. Your artwork is amazing and I love seeing these realistically drawn animals saying such “human” things. I thought Townsen was going to be annoying the first time we saw him but you’ve even managed to make the irritating kid cliche work for me. :) This is amazing.

Beautiful and tense, Karl! You know how to create suspense, sir. Great handle on how canine creatures express fear through posture, too!

August 7th, 2008 at 3:38 am
Sir, if you kill off Townsen, on an anger scale of one to twenty… I will be pissed the f**k off.
Seriously. Please, please don’t do that.
August 7th, 2008 at 6:25 am
I agree with Jackson! Plus, I’ll cry. Because I am a lame, lame girl who loves that little fox way to much.

August 8th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
Okay, it’s the Reaper – but Death isn’t always the enemy. Townsen may just be getting a message.
August 8th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
Or the chance to say goodbye, even…
August 8th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Towsen!! ;_;
I… I don’t think I’ll be able to get a peaceful night’s sleep until I find out what happens to my favorite little fictional critter T^T
August 10th, 2008 at 2:42 am
OH GOD NO.
Towsen.
Bravado.
Whatever we call you, WE LOVE YOU.

won’t you be happier working twice as hard?
think it over…
August 10th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
Damn you! How can I continue when a comic this good exists!
Seriously, absolutely awesome!

Tomsen’s expression captured in panel 3 is priceless. My dog, Pike, does the same thing when happy!
A beautiful strip, as always.
