Gotta say, I’m glad the focus is off Townsen for now. I also think he’s adorable, BUT — this is the Charles Christopher show, and there’s a lot more to his beautiful world than the fox.
Like this. Simple, eloquent family drama. With feathers.
I agree with J. Random. Townsen’s cute and all, but there’s more to this story than him. Plus, of course Karl’s going to keep us in suspense – and the wonder of ACC is how great ALL the story lines are. This strip is just beautifual.
Well, I’ve been away form the strip for a while. The best thing about that is the big hit of Kerschl excellence I got while catching up. This is easily one of the best strips out there on the web (or anywhere else for that matter). I’m in awe of the groove you’re in on this. Long may it continue!
I’m afraid I’m not grokking what’s going on here … I think.
As I’m reading it, Bad Dad Bird comes home and wants to be let in after being out all night carousing … again. Mom Bird sticks her head out and then Mom Bird’s Illicit Affair Bird sticks HIS head out? And then she sends the kids out for Bad Dad Bird to watch while she and Illicit Affair Bird finish what they were doing?
Am I in the park, or way of base? (yay mixed metaphor!)
Misterbixby: The bird in panel 3 is one of the children. In panel 4, the other child appears, and then they both stand outside with their father. You can see the first bird on the bottom looking up at the other one as to suggest they help their dad. The mother is not in any of the panels – I hope this solves any confusion, and I hope I’m right so not to mislead you!
Oh! OK. I think I got thrown off by the scale. I didn’t see the size of the Dad Bird compared to the doorway before so the close-up on the kids made them appear the same size as the dad to me, which is why I thought the kids in the last panel were different birds than in panel 3 and 4. Thanks for the help Craig!
Indeed – very cute and fuzzy . But I still am worried about townsen – and Vivol for that matter . And need I mention TACC – slogging ahead in the blowing rain – with a grim expression on his face – and perhaps a tear in his eye . I will admiit to getting a trifle misty myself when that “bang” happened . And with the previous strips mysterious figure in the background mist – - – - . Oh well I know I should be used to the foreshadowing and the waits but … c’est la vie – n’est pas ?
Karl – strange request – have been on TX for some time and had it bookmarked . When I tried to visit today – got a 403 error – forbidden . I can still reach your site without problems – but the others – not even individually . Has something changed that I am not aware of ? Any help would be appreciated – thanks as363
as363 – I checked it out and they all seem to be working. Maybe there was a hiccup with Ramon’s server. Happens from time to time.
Jarreth – I’m not sure what you’re talking about. The strip has gone up every Wednesday for the last year and a half. This week’s was very late in the day, but the previous two weeks were up bright and early at 9 AM. Is your browser not refreshing?
I really enjoy your strip. I only recently ran across it – perhaps a week ago and have already finished the archives. It’s gorgeously done with wonderful penmanship and a great storyline. I’m really excited to see how it all develops. Thanks for putting this work up for all of us to appreciate!
my take kind of bothers me…especially as a father.
the last panel had the ominous hunter in the shadows thing…seeing critter traps everywhere.
my read is: where is momma bird? gone? i hope she just sent the kids out cause otherwise i’m gonna have some issues- great strip- especially since you can read things multiple ways with the strips. it can be as dark as you want or as light as a feather.
Yes it’s his own fault… but he’s so pitiful in panel 2. The wife is being pretty mean. Hope the whole experience convinces him to change. The grace of the kids is neat.

Jarreth- also, how ’bout you not be a whiner about getting a professionally done, gorgeous comic for free once a week, no matter what the date? Yeesh.

This is a wonderful strip. All the more so because it’s so unusual to find any artist these days doing something so warm (or so it seems, anyway).
This bird is fast becoming my favourite character. I hope we’ll see more of him.
