It’s Not Going To Stop
Hi everyone.
First of all, a big, Abominable ‘Welcome’ to all the new readers from Applegeeks! I’m grateful to Hawk and Ananth for linking to the comic, and I hope you guys stick around for more.
It’s been a rough day at the drawing table. I’ve gone through a whole range of emotions while watching this scene unfold over the last few weeks, and I didn’t really know until today how it was going to play out. I appreciate all of the heartfelt shout-outs to Townsen. I want you to know that whatever you’re feeling for the little guy, I’m feeling it times ten. He’s like a family member, and this isn’t easy for me. It’s not over yet, though…
Music for today’s strip: ‘Wise Up’ by Aimee Mann, from the Magnolia Soundtrack.
And last but not least, Happy Birthday to my brother.
See you all next week!

Wow, completely unexpected. I am not sure what to make of your blog to us though, I do hope he pulls through.
I was kind of expecting to see the angry CC like when he went after the bear trap and the lion/moon bear.
Great strip, and it touches the heart.
October 1st, 2008 at 5:58 pm
I’m one of the- probably many- readers here from the Applegeeks website and I’m glad to have found this, gripping story and fantastic art work.
As has been said, poor Townsen =[

October 1st, 2008 at 6:00 pm
Well, at least the hunter has some tiny amount of heart, unless I misinterpreted the last panel.
Great strip, I can’t wait to see how this turns out.
October 1st, 2008 at 6:05 pm
Oh Townsen…
Well Townsen is nominated to be best supporting character @ wcrca.frumph.net — go vote for him.
October 1st, 2008 at 6:06 pm
expressions in panels 3 & 4 just ripped my heart out, haha
this is such a good comic.
October 1st, 2008 at 6:11 pm
Oh, Townsen… *sniffle*
October 1st, 2008 at 6:15 pm
I just learned about this from the applegeeks site and I have been completely bowled over. Finally, someone who isn’t afraid to take an interesting turn for the sake of a good story. Nicely done, dude!
October 1st, 2008 at 6:16 pm
Wow. What a beautiful scene. On the first reading, I was anxious because of the menacing threat of the hunter. And now that I know Charles is safe (for the moment), when I read it again, it’s just deeply, deeply sad. What amazing storytelling.
October 1st, 2008 at 6:17 pm
He’s just been sleeping all this time.
And the blood? It’s just Kool-Aid mix that got wet by the rain! He’s fine, he’s just going to be a red fox now!
Please.
October 1st, 2008 at 6:20 pm
Ok, so I’m sitting right here with tears in my eyes. Don’t die, Townsen!
October 1st, 2008 at 6:21 pm
I wonder if maybe the rifle was pointed at Charles to make sure he wasn’t going to further injure the merely (I hope) unconscious Townsen.
October 1st, 2008 at 6:26 pm
Oh man… I really hope this turns out in a completely different way than I’m thinking it’s going to… I really liked Townsen. He was the comic relief that was sorely needed in some of those very gripping moments.
You have an amazing comic here Karl and I do look forward to seeing what the story has to tell us
October 1st, 2008 at 6:28 pm
Wow. Well, here’s what i think: I think that this is a very interesting turn for the story to take.
I also think it would be naive to think that Townsen is still alive. Or to want him to be alive. Every one dies. It’s not a particularly happy thought, but a fact none the less.
I am very very interested to see what happens next week.
Also, the shadows of the hunter’s face in the first and second to last panel are amazing. Your artwork continues to amaze me.
October 1st, 2008 at 6:29 pm
That is a pretty fitting song for the strip… but we’re not giving up on Townsen yet!
October 1st, 2008 at 6:29 pm
Man, you’re murderising me!
How did you bind me so emotionally to these characters?
brilliant!
October 1st, 2008 at 6:37 pm
;_ ;
October 1st, 2008 at 6:45 pm
wow… like i said before, i hate you and i love you right now.
October 1st, 2008 at 6:49 pm
This seems a bit rushed. I mean, CC just met Townsen if you think about it. Ya it’s been like a year since he’s been around, but with only one strip a week, not a lot of time has actually passed in the actual comic’s world.
Fantastic artwork, and despite my feelings on this seeming a bit rush (The Death of Townsen), still a big impact. You had tears in my eyes. Bravo.
October 1st, 2008 at 6:50 pm
I can see Charles gently picking him up (tiny little ball of limp white fur in those huge hands) and trying to go for help…
*bawls*
October 1st, 2008 at 6:56 pm
Well, Charles may not have known Townsen long, but Townsen’s a kid. Kids can get under your skin pretty damn fast.
October 1st, 2008 at 7:01 pm
I follow the Applegeeks link, fall in love and get my heart torn out. You’re lucky I’m a sucker, though! I could never stop reading this masterwork.
Townsen… you… can;t be dead…
October 1st, 2008 at 7:04 pm
I sure hope he was shot by a tranquilizer gun, cause that puddle could easily just be rainwater.
October 1st, 2008 at 7:22 pm
I love the idea of a tranquilizer but I don’t think think they go “BANG”, more of a “PFFT” sound I would presume as is there is no gun powder involved only compressed air.
Karl, love the strip. Count me in for a copy of the book when you get around to publishing it.
October 1st, 2008 at 7:25 pm
…
October 1st, 2008 at 7:29 pm
Damn you Kerschl… damn your cruel brilliance…
October 1st, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Total mixed emotions on the last several posts . I admire the ethos that you are drawing out in the strips and the talent to do so . But that does not mean I have to be a supporter of what is going down . Like others – I hope for a “decent” ending to this part of the story cycle – but I also realize that in real life as well as in tales told – not every tale has happy endings .
October 1st, 2008 at 7:49 pm
Panel 5 … just like “Christmas morning”
I may have to change my wallpaper so I don’t short circuit my keyboard with tears
October 1st, 2008 at 8:00 pm
This one is just such a tear jerker!!!!
Thank you for the comic, it’s everything you’d expect but just different enough to be unique!
October 1st, 2008 at 8:01 pm
I’m hoping Vivol or Moon Bear got the hunter…
October 1st, 2008 at 8:08 pm
Townsen :’(
Please don’t be dead D:
October 1st, 2008 at 8:17 pm
My guess: the hunter realized he didn’t have a big enough gun for TACC. I can’t imagine there was any mercy involved – just cold calculation.
October 1st, 2008 at 8:29 pm
Beautiful. My heart is broken and my eyes sting. Oh Karl. I know just how Charles feels and Im crying now. When you say ‘Its not going to stop’ are you talking about the killings or my tears? boooohooooo whaaaaa.
You know real life is sad why make the comic sad Karl?
October 1st, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Oh, oh… oh my. Nature is cruel, and you’re capturing it so beautifully – with an previously unseen combination of actual humanity (contrasting with the ‘humanity’ of people)… oh. I could go on, but I won’t.
Needless to say, this is a beautiful creation, and I’m completely hooked.
October 1st, 2008 at 8:42 pm
My guess is the hunter (if that’s indeed what he is) isn’t so much as showing mercy, but rather that he can see that a living Abominable is more valuable than a dead Abominable.
October 1st, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Karl, you are breaking my heart. This is a great story.
October 1st, 2008 at 8:50 pm
man what a heartbreaking scene
October 1st, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Townsen looks just like my dog, except my dog is only sleeping. It’d be nice if Townsen was just sleeping too…
Great story as always sad as it may be.
October 1st, 2008 at 9:06 pm
HOW. DARE. YOU. You power-hungry bastard….. ( I love it, I love it, I love it…*weeps*)
October 1st, 2008 at 9:14 pm
Ah merde! I’m very, very unhappy. I feel like cursing you, Karl. :sigh:
October 1st, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Every time I hear ‘Wise Up’, it brings tears to my eyes. No, really, its the song and has nothing to do with Townsen.
Okay, I’m not a very good liar. Poor, poor Townsen. He is a beautiful character and I don’t want to see him go.
October 1st, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Don’t cry Charlie *sniff*
This comic is awesome.. Combination of artistic drawings, comedy, and drama. Kudos to you karl and a happy birthday to your brother…
October 1st, 2008 at 9:56 pm
As another new reader brought over from Applegeeks, I must say when I read this entire thing a couple days ago, I fell absolutely in love with every bit of it. I love all the characters, and to see Townsen go like that, is quite upsetting… but he could just be severely injured but still alive, right? ….right? ; ; love all of this, can’t wait until next week!
October 1st, 2008 at 10:02 pm
NOOOOOO!
October 1st, 2008 at 10:31 pm
i’m sitting here doing homework with a classmate in her house, and trying desperately not to cry. (how do you explain, through your sobs, that you are crying over a cartoon fox?) I don’t want to be naive and think Townsen is still alive, but I also don’t want to give up hope just yet.
Also- perfect choice of music for this heartbreaking and extraordinary moment.
October 1st, 2008 at 11:01 pm
You better make him come back as a Force Ghost or something!!! Else, you will fall to the dark side and some dude, probably Christopher Lee, will chop your hand with a lightsaber (???)
Love the comic
– Another new (crazy) reader from Applegeeks
October 1st, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Wow!
October 1st, 2008 at 11:43 pm
You’ll find a way to ret-con this, right?
October 1st, 2008 at 11:45 pm
…*Sniffle*
October 2nd, 2008 at 12:02 am
Reminds me of my dog that’s 500 miles away from me! I love that an online comic about animals can touch me so much…I feel bad admitting this now, but I didn’t give this comic a chance at first because I was like, “Yeah, like I’m going to read a comic about a bunch of animals!”
BOY WAS I WRONG.
October 2nd, 2008 at 12:37 am
Holy crap. That fourth panel is where it’s at, man. Wow.
October 2nd, 2008 at 12:41 am
Townsen noooooo!
I swear, I read this comic, and tears come to my eyes every panel… How do you do this??
It’s amazing… keep up the good work. I can’t wait for the next series of events unfolding after this tragedy.
Perhaps CC meets Townsen’s parents, leading to…? Give me a hint here, man!
October 2nd, 2008 at 12:47 am
I am yet another reader from the applegeeks camp, and I to am glad to have been urged to read this comic. Congrats Karl on your ability to bring out such strong emotions with only your beautifully drawn images. Had me in tears a few times.
October 2nd, 2008 at 1:12 am
time to make a hunter popsicle with that rifle….
that’s just what i’m thinking
also, it’s too early to shed tears for Townsend… there’s magic in this forest. where’s moon bear?
October 2nd, 2008 at 1:13 am
Another applegeeks reader here. I was unsure myself about the comic at first but it gets under your skin fast. Poor Townsen.
October 2nd, 2008 at 1:32 am
Yet another instant fan from applegeeks. I just finished the entire backlog over the last two days and have set up an RSS to my homepage. I really love the beautiful art style and the sensitivity shown to the characters. It took me about 10 strips to get it. My favourite so far are the moon bear flashbacks.
October 2nd, 2008 at 2:28 am
Damn…
Moar plz
October 2nd, 2008 at 2:59 am
Not faaaair…. for us!!
October 2nd, 2008 at 3:05 am
poor Townsend….I have tears running down my face as I type this….such beautiful, beautiful artwork. Thank you for bringing us a webcomic that truly touches your readers….
Now, Charles C. —- find that hunter that did this!>:(
October 2nd, 2008 at 3:09 am
It’s 4 am, I just got up to comfort my baby girl. Now she’s back to sleep and I’m the one who needs comforting…
October 2nd, 2008 at 5:12 am
HE BE DEAD!
October 2nd, 2008 at 5:55 am
I’m here from AppleGeeks as well.
Loving the strip, It feels like a Miyazaki movie by way of Calvin and Hobbes.
October 2nd, 2008 at 5:58 am
There is hope. That’s not a pool of blood he’s lying in, it’s a puddle – we saw it in this strip: http://www.abominable.cc/2008/09/24/precious-in-his-sight/
I’m not saying he’s likely to be alive, but there’s a chance.
October 2nd, 2008 at 6:09 am
Still quite enjoying this comic. Ever since we reviewed it on The Dish, i’ve been reading every update. Thanks Karl for your efforts.
October 2nd, 2008 at 6:34 am
My heart is broken.
October 2nd, 2008 at 6:52 am
Keep up the good work Karl.
October 2nd, 2008 at 7:02 am
you keep making me cry at work
October 2nd, 2008 at 7:03 am
Gods.
I wish that this didn’t make me feel like crying.
You are surely touched by a Muse.
b
October 2nd, 2008 at 7:10 am
Karl, you are frik’n amazing. You have a way of tugging and tugging at emotion without being sappy or corny. It’s all in the honesty of your work and the artistry of your visuals.
October 2nd, 2008 at 7:11 am
I read this strip whilst lisetning to ‘Guku’ by Xavier Rudd. It would have been heart breaking anyway but with that song in the background I’m going to have to go to the office bathroom for a quiet, but manly, weep
RIP Townsen
October 2nd, 2008 at 7:57 am
Tears. Legit tears.
Damn it.
October 2nd, 2008 at 8:10 am
*sniffle*
October 2nd, 2008 at 8:30 am
I’m going with the puddle theory… http://www.abominable.cc/2008/09/24/precious-in-his-sight/ as the other puddles look like the one Townsen’s lying in. As much as I want Towsen to be tranquilized, I think he’s been shot though… unless he’s playing possum. The worst bit for me, (apart from typing this with tears in my eyes) is that we’ve got a week to see what’s going to happen next
Leaving with manly sniffles… OH… I think I’d clear off if I was the hunter… look what’s turned up after you’ve shot a pure and innocent little thing… like HELLO… If that’s it’s friend…
October 2nd, 2008 at 8:39 am
OH, Happy Birthday to your Bro
October 2nd, 2008 at 8:49 am
Whyyyyyy! Damn hunter, and damn hawk for linking me here. (I love the comic it’s beautiful)
October 2nd, 2008 at 9:20 am
He can’t be playing possum, keep in mind his mom knew something had happend to her son.
October 2nd, 2008 at 10:31 am
He’s shot but unconscious…
Because to even consider the alternative makes one want to get out the torches and pitchforks.
October 2nd, 2008 at 11:35 am
Hmm. Has the hunter doubled round them? Thinking about it, Townsen is laying on the side that got shot, yet the hunter is standing on the opposite side to the wound. So, either Townsen did a barrelroll with a twist when he got shot, or the hunter likes walking round in circles.
And I agree that it may be a bit naive to believe Townsen is still alive, unless Moon Bear swoops in to save the day with a paw of almighty kickass vengence.
October 2nd, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Love your comic. I’m gonna be an avid reader here now ^^
October 2nd, 2008 at 1:20 pm
I recently lost a pet, Big Sam, an amazing cat, who spent anytime I was on the couch, in my lap. And now I’m re-living all that grief. But soldier on Karl! It’s a beautiful strip.
October 2nd, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Wow, simply wow! This is a beautiful story with amazing artwork. I don’t know if you have any plans of having this published, but if you ever do I would definitely purchase a copy so I could share this with every one I know. I just have a question pertaining to the art; what do you use? I’m just curious if you use traditional media like india ink and do a wash or if the coloring is digital. Either way it’s beautiful nonetheless.
October 2nd, 2008 at 1:59 pm
I don’t want to believe he’s dead yet.
October 2nd, 2008 at 2:38 pm
you have 2 choices
a: bring Townsen back
2: the hunter dies a horrible, painful death at the hands/teeth of CC and/or Townsen’s family…
personally id like to see both…
October 2nd, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Oh man, when i read the title i started singing that song, and then you mention it, it was just the song for todays strip.
October 2nd, 2008 at 3:05 pm
I can’t believe it.
I’m a 20 year-old college student, I’m a pretty manly man, but still…this brought me to tears…
Congratulations on creating an amazing piece of art, once a week just isn’t enough, however, I need these emotional highs more often.
October 2nd, 2008 at 3:31 pm
The figure in the bush holding the rifle, looks amazing! I could literally hear the ambient noise while reading through the last couple strips. Keep up the stellar work!
October 2nd, 2008 at 5:03 pm
I popped over from Applegeeks. This is an amazing story. Looking forward to more. Sad about Townsen
October 2nd, 2008 at 6:01 pm
nooo…townsen
dude your art is simply amazing, keep it up
October 2nd, 2008 at 6:04 pm
great work Karl this comic just keeps gettting better and better
October 2nd, 2008 at 6:52 pm
For anyone who has ever lost someone precious, this resonates tremendously.
Thank you for writing about something real.
October 2nd, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Townsen. :’(
October 2nd, 2008 at 9:20 pm
I am so glad that I found this comic! The art is breathtaking – such mute colors but the perfect feeling for where it seems to be going. I love the bird couple they crack me up. Can’t wait to read more and delighted to find another well-drawn webcomic.
October 2nd, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Man I just totally lost my s**t when I read this; still trying not to bawl my eyes out, and failing miserably.
I’ve been reading for about 8 months now, completely entranced. All of the characters are so relatable and real in their own precious way. I loathe the way this has happened, but it’s all too real not to love.
October 2nd, 2008 at 9:59 pm
This better have a happy ending or I’m unsubscribing from the feed.
October 2nd, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Wow… I hope Townsen will be ok.
October 2nd, 2008 at 11:29 pm
Karl, you know I love you like a brother, but next time I see you at a con I’m going to punch you in the nuts.
I think you made a good call, but I don’t care. Wear a cup.
October 3rd, 2008 at 12:40 am
Awww that’s so sweet and sad at the same time that it’s painful. @.@
Also, thanks to the Applegeeks crew too, for linking to this. XD
October 3rd, 2008 at 1:07 am
Began reading several weeks ago and I am very impressed with the emotions shown in your artwork. Your characters feel very real to me and I am praying Townsend comes through with little harm.
October 3rd, 2008 at 1:41 am
No words, just sadness
October 3rd, 2008 at 10:36 am
A good friend of mine just recommended this strip yesterday. Having now brought myself all the way up to date, I am entirely seduced by your art and by your story. Your work is simply amazing.
The emotional impact of the strip is immediate and powerful. Thank you for sharing.
October 3rd, 2008 at 4:49 pm
I want to stop reading for a few weeks so that I can read a few strips all at once, get a better feel for the flow of the story…but come Wednesday, I can’t help myself!
You are truly addicting.
October 3rd, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Yeah, heard about this from Apple Geeks and wow, am I glad I did. I’m glad I get to see your awesome strip, but I am rather upset with you killing Townsen
Really really sad. I’m shocked you did that.
Other than that I love you. Great storytelling, wondeful artwork. There have been so many panels that I’ve thought DAMN I want that on a tshirt! Haha. Keep up the good work
October 3rd, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Be kind of weird for a -hunter- to shoot a fox, leave it, and then pass up bigfoot too… Perhaps Townsen is still alive? … plz?
October 4th, 2008 at 10:23 am
Yet another applegeeks ad clicker here. I read all the strips in one sitting and have added this to my list of “refreshing for update” list =p
Keep up the fantastic work.
October 4th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
Kate: It would also be quite weird for a hunter to shoot a fox, and then /Bigfoot/ shows up and starts mourning over the body. He probably fled in panic.
October 5th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
I recently found my way here from the applegeeks site and I have been completely
blown by your work. Looks like I now have something new to look forward to on wednesdays.
October 5th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Oh no! Not Townsen! I hope it’s just a tranquilizer dart. Please….He’s such a great little character. :*(
October 5th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
I’m not sure what website I came from- I’m not from AG though.
In all honesty, killing- or making him appear to be killed, was a bit fast for the story. Or it would be if CC’s personality was cold and grumpy because then the reader could not relate to the story and Charles’s character would seem too contrived. However, this is not the case. CC is not very intelligent and his caring and loving ways could be interpreted as naive, but his flaws are complimented by his natural inclination to protect others. It’s an even better compliment since we do not know yet why he does it, but because he seems rather unintelligent we can only infer that he just feels the need to do so, and that he doesn’t have a backstory to motivate him. This personality sets Charles up for a lot of character development- which always makes a great story.
Therefore, when I read these panels I see a protector who could not protect a little child. A naive person who does not want to believe that his new friend, this young child, is dead. And finally that caring and compassionate Abominable Charles who just sees this as a sad and horrible turn of events that he was definitely not emotionally prepared for. If this were anyone, but Charles then I would say Townsen went down too early. But it is Charles and Townsen is down for the count- and we, the readers, are learning and relating more and more with Charles with every new comic.
Also, I really want an Abominable Charles stuffed toy right about now. I need to hug him so I feel betteh.
October 6th, 2008 at 10:13 am
so sad…
October 6th, 2008 at 11:32 am
Now we’ve got a t-shirt with Townsen on it. You can’t kill off a major character and then stick him on a shirt with all the other characters, right? So he has to be okay, right?
October 6th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
ok, cant wait for next wednesday!
October 6th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
you’re making me cry
I applaud to you great artist. Lately theres been rarity of your kind.
October 6th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
YOU’RE A MONSTER.
No…no, you’re not. Deep breaths, CJ. In…and out. In…and out…
October 7th, 2008 at 9:25 am
Awesome awesome awesome comic.
October 7th, 2008 at 10:10 am
I just discovered you and CC today, all thanks to http://moosekleenex.deviantart.com/ , and I’m really addicted to the story already! Definitely one of the best comics I’ve come across lately. You’re a great artist. You make people smile. That’s a wonderful gift. And the characters – they’re all so very, very real and human, even if they are not ‘human’ characters per se, and all of the secondary characters have a very definite, clear personality – it’s like each of them is a certain human type – like those small…what were they again, mice?, carrying food and then preparing it, when Charles falls in the snow after the moon bear lets him go, those guys really made me laugh and I could almost picture their voices, their intonations; it was all so easy to imagine – your characters are just that good!
Alright, since I’m commenting only now after having read all the pages during the last hour, I’ll say all I have in mind. The whole jazz with Sissi Skunk’s was a great laugh, and a nice, idiotically-funny-and-absurd touch to the whole thing (will we be getting more of it? I’d love it if we did! …although it wouldn’t wuite match the current plot twist, so uh, maybe later in the story? Anyway, back to the subject.) The lion high up on the mountain top was an interesting part – and still is, actually, since we’ve yet to discover what it was all about. But if I were to be sincere, I didn’t actually think he was a fraud until I read the title of the page (yes, I only read it after reading the pannels D:) because, even if the whole tentacle-business was a creepy idea, him turning into the night sky was actually… beautiful. I think. Meh. And that scene where it’s raining, and papa bird can’t enter his house because his wife won’t let him, but the kids come out to stay with him, I literally went ‘d’awwwww’, that was such a sweet and touching scene. Also loved those parts with the owl father and baby owl – especially comparing them, how the first time they appeared (‘The Idiot’) it was all just to add more amusement, but how the second time they appeared, the baby owl’s last comment is of a completely different tone. And, gods, Townsen, how could I forget him, I’d taken an immediate liking to the little fox from the first pannel he appeared in and… this might sound weird. But I was kind of expecting this sudden end for him, even before the whole ‘The Call’ business, simply because, well, as I said, your comic has gone pretty much naturally and refreshing in the same time, so I was thinking that having Townsen stick with Charles for the whole thing, be the talkative, sweet sidekick and not having anything bad happen along the way, or at least a bit alarming (since I am not sure wether he’s actually dead or not, though I think he is) would’ve been a bit clicheic and improbable in the real world……… this doesn’t mean the last few pages haven’t completely killed me, though *sobs*
I think that, maybe, your comic in itself and not only Charles have matured along the way? I’m saying this since, while at the beggining it was all fun and gags and whatnot, it then presents a conflict, then turns to more dramatic and sad parts, but still keeping the occasional jokes to counterbalance it.
So, in short, I love this comic; it has everything without overdoing it, something terribly hard to find these days, and for this I really respect you.
Cheers!
p.s.- tomorrow is wednesday!

I hope Christopher eats townsen’s corpse instead of letting it rot. I’m sure that’s what Townsen would want.

I just found this strip today and I absolutely adore it! The strips are so touching and funny and I love all the different animals!
This page is really touching.
I stop by in a sad moment though. Poor Townsen!! I love his character. I hope he`ll wake up and go like: `there you are! I saw my brothers and then there was a loud bang-thing and blablabla….` but your post suggests that he`ll not get up….

Recently introduced to this webcomic – have since finished the archives and become instantly mesmerized by your style. Your story somehow finds a soft spot in everyone’s heart and stabs it brutally. You are awesome and I hate you for making a character that I would cry for if he died.

WOW
Just discovered CC after getting the Comicpress theme for my own comic.
I don’t know what to say, it’s is pure greatness!!!
October 8th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Please…please update…you’re going to give me a heart attack.
October 8th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
One of the commenters earlier mentioned the shadows of the gunman–I went back and looked, sure enuff!
But did anyone else notice the shadows behind Townsen? Looks like Moon-Bear to me . . .
By the way, am I the only one out here who just DOES NOT LIKE that lion?
October 8th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
I hate you Karl!
I kept away from TACC for more a couple weeks as I didn’t want to see what happened and now I’m crying again… :/
But umm… You’ve got unbelievable talent…
Keep up the good work… lol

There’s also one weird story connected to this. The comic, and my returning to read it.
A friend of mine came to chat with me on MSN a couple days ago, asked if she could quickly tell me something. I told her sure, I was busy, but not that busy.
She said that she’s going to get married. I of course rejoiced and told her how happy I was for her and all. Then she told me how it’d happened. She had been reading a comic, where a character she really liked, had died and she’d gotten very emotional and cried over it. Her boyfriend felt bad for his girl crying and wanted to console her they talked about stuff and ended up telling eachother they wanted to marry each other. ^^
At this point I went ‘Aww… :hugs: Wait… Not… The Abominable Charles Christopher?’ ‘Yes, how did you know?’ she replied. ‘Noooo! Townsen is NOT dead! I’ve said it before and I’m sticking by it!’ -_-
So umm… after that I was all mixed up. Very happy for my friend, heart broken over Townsen and trying to hold it all back as I was still busy and needed to get stuff done…. I couldn’t come back to catch up then, because I wouldn’t have gotten anything done anymore, so it took me a few days. Oh and I still hold by what I said, Townsen’s NOT dead! Grr…
But yeah, she never said webcomic and we’ve never discussed what comics we read before and it had been two weeks since I stopped reading and still… Somehow I knew immediately. It’s by far the weirdest reaction I’ve ever had to anyone telling me they’re getting married and one of the weirdest coincidences overall that I can think of.
Like I said before, you’ve got an unbelievable talent. For drawing beautiful pictures and telling engaging stories with so little. Also for drawing so much emotion into and from a picture that it defies comprehension. Indeed, from so many pictures of yours.
So now I know at least two girls that have cried over the lines of your pen. Does that make you happy? Huh?
It should…
I love your work and I’m going to keep reading, even if I might say I wouldn’t. Please don’t stop, but please, let’s keep things like this to a very limited amount. Ok? ^^
October 10th, 2008 at 2:23 am
hmm… haven’t read in a while so I had some catching up to do. That’s all I can say: hmm…
Well, Townsen lie at what seems to be his death’s door. TACC was spared by the hunter from what, compassion? Hopes to later hunt TACC with others? And why didn’t TACC go berzerk like with the bear-trap? Perhaps TACC is calming down; maybe “the wind” told him something along the lines of not fighting fire with fire.
ARGH!!! Too many twists available!
Methinks that Townsen’s parents will show up and give TACC some kind of guidance or take him somewhere or think that he [killed] Townsen. Again there are too many options on where this could go.
The artwork is still amazing, the “smog”, as I call it, is very enticing how it makes the face then vanishes to more “smog”…
Well, on the up-and-up we have a context clue. The rifle the hunter is using appears to be a Springfield Armory 1903 .30-06.
The springfield would be seen most commonly pre-vietnam, and it’s use as a hunting rifle would have been near the WWII era or after. We now have a general time frame of the 1930s to the ’60s…
What was going on that “the wind” may have been talking about..?
And what’s not going to stop? The rain? The killing? Where are you going Karl, what’s your angle!
October 10th, 2008 at 2:29 am
I didn’t get a chance to add…
That puddle Townsen is lying in, it is most definitely [mostly] water; there are several puddles just like it all around in the prevous views of Townsen…
And even though we have an idea of the time frame we have no idea of the location yet. We know it is near mountains, but that still could be anywhere. “The Wind” as a lion can be ruled out because he was “the wind”, so it isn’t in Africa, but a lot of help that does…
Canada might be a good bet, but isn’t Canada’s law concerning firearms a little on the tighter side? I don’t think there’d be people running around with vintage rifles hunting small foxes for the hell of it in Canada…
October 10th, 2008 at 8:41 am
Hey man! Glad we were able send you some traffic.
And we will certainly keep reading! Sorry to get back to you so late, it’s been a busy week!
October 11th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
I’m reading this for the second time, commenting for the first time. This really hits home with me – I remember doing this when my first hamster died when I was little. We buried him in our backyard and I was so heartbroken over it I went out and laid in the grass near his little grave that we made and cried.
October 12th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Poor little Townsen D:
October 12th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
I just had an idea. It’s not a happy idea, but it’s a pretty idea. Listen to Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1DNxR9r_mzA), while reading this.
It has a deeper meaning to me than most, I know, but still, I would think I’m not the only one to find it befitting…

Panel 4 just broke my heart, and it’s breaking over and over again every time I look at it.
Oh jesus, I want to hate you for making me so sad, but you’re just too damned talented.
You have yourself a brand-new fan.

Panel 4 hit close to home for me too.
July 22nd, 2009 at 7:42 pm
I almost started crying at Charles’ reaction to Townsen’s death/unconciousness. I did almost the same exact thing as my cat of 14 years lay dying, hardly able to move. Emotional scene for me… And great comic, as always.
July 27th, 2009 at 12:02 am
*breaks down in tears*
Why Townsen? Why did it have to be Townsen?
*sniffles and cries some more*

I’m tearing up so bad right now. I’m about to start sniffling. This hit me harder than Bambi’s mom when I was 4. You sir are the most amazing storyteller I’ve ever encountered on the vast internet. I’m gonna go dry my tears now. T_T
June 10th, 2010 at 6:23 am

But… but… he’s gonna be okay, right? D:
HE’S TOO CUTE TO NOT BE OKAY. ;-;
April 19th, 2011 at 12:40 am
It takes something truly heartwrenching to make me cry. By the last page my eyes were watering, but the fourth panel of this one made me lose it. I keep hoping that Townsen will jump up at any moment and say “Ha! I got you so good!”, just like he did when he and Charles were playing in the snow…
This is absolutely heartwrenching and breathtaking. You’re amazing at what you do.
May 6th, 2011 at 7:06 am
Wow even going back and reading these strips after so long, this part of the story still makes my eyes water. I wish you didn’t have to kill of Townsen, but it was immaculately done; really tugs at the reader’s heartstrings.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:53 pm
