Sweet! It’s the Legendary Eagle of Resurrection! I was hoping he’s show up, now Townsen’s gonna be just fine. Whew, I was worried for a minute there, but not now. And it’s cool that the Eagle plip’d on Charles in the second frame, that’s quite an honor to be plip’d on by the Legendary Eagle of Resurrection!
I actually stayed up for this and it does fill me with hope… Look at Charles’s expression in the last frame… If The bird/vulture had cleared off with Townsen then surely Charles would be looking upwards and not perplexed… (IT COULD BE SAD but I’m going with perplexed as I’d hate to think poor Towsen as bird food) I think the body’s have gone BUT WHERE???
“Here comes the sun” also seems to be a positive title… oh screw it… I want Townsen back… and I’m with james… early release… please… you’re affecting my sleep pattern… but thank you for such a wonderful story
The plot thickens. Actually, it is more like ’solidifies’ by now. I agree with one of the previous posters, it seems like it is death come to take him away, and CC can’t do anything to stop it from taking his friend.
I haven’t really been following the comments too closely, but even though I really hope Townsend ends up ok, I hope more that popular opinion doesn’t sway the story. I have confidence in it. :)
It seems, from Charles’ stupefied expression, that the bird has up and disappeared entirely. Of course, Charles’ intelligence is subpar and it is feasible to think that the bird simply flew away and he is too stunned to realize what has happened. However, if the bird DID disappear, I’m banking on a magical origin for the avian, and perhaps a resurrection in the near future? PLEASE??
Ok, you’ve succeeded in getting me completely confused. At first I was shocked, then I was like wtf..? I don’t believe any normal bird would swoop down and steal a fox right out of Charles’ hands, so I do believe that is no normal bird, and judging from the title, I expect (and really hope) something good is happening to Townsen… I don’t want to wait another week! That’s just cruel and unusual punishment! ; ;
Could be either a raven or a crow – both have status in many cultures . In the 3rd last panel TACC was all set to land a haymaker on the bird – but the last panel shows him with a “here we go again” expression . I also hate to wait another week – but I am not as concerned as I was last week . Great story-line again Karl – many thanks .
Karl you have some serious problems and should seek help. I don’t know if I can do this any more. It took me a while to get up the nerve to look today and really you are disturbed. Its not cool any more. Horus? Dark bird of death? Why Karl? There are some real great people out there that can help you but you have got to quit this torture. I love this strip but may have to quit you for awhile. Sigh…..
Oy! From the layout of the strip and the look on Charle’s face, He’s dreaming, hallucinating, or like someone above said the bird was death coming to get Townsen. I personally think Charles is asleep and is having difficulties coping with what just happend. He appears as though he’s growing a stronger personality, though. Go Charles!
Also, about the bird, it’s very agressive for a bird to attack a creature as large and menacing as Charles. Most birds of prey attack dead creatures, or smaller ones they can capture within their claws. In order for that bird to be real
1) it would have to be a new, massive, bird with massive claws
2) It would have to be brave enough to go head-to-head with a creature that it has never seen before. Birds are not usually aggressive enough to take on a new creature that size. (Think of a snake eating a crocodile, or an octopus eating a shark, it’s may happen, but it’s not normal. Also, the snake exploded after eating the croc.)
3) Since Charles was laying completely on top of Townsen it would seem as though, unless that bird were an eagle or a hawk, that it was just this giant sleeping creature, maybe with a bit of white on his front. They both probably look like a pile of fur, from above, and if one were looking from above the first thing to be seen would be Charles.
4) Charles, I’m assuming, has a killer grip, and trying to take Townsen from that grip would not be as quick as it was seen here.
and 5) While Charles has shown incompetence and naivete with social behavior, when feeling threatened he does not hesitate to land a punch or destroy something. He has yet to miss his mark in this comic, except when he was pummeled with snow by the moon bear, and that wasn’t really a miss, just a failed attempt.
That’s why I think he’s probably hallucinating or dreaming. ‘Sides, if Townsen was shot and Charles was there right afterward, where’s the blood? No way Charles didn’t get any blood on him. Geeze guys, have a little doubt sometimes.
After reading this comic for many many months now, I’d just like to say that Charles’s expression in panel 6 is probably my favorite part of this post, and I think one of the most poignant of the whole shebang. We’ve all noticed over the past few strips how much Townsen means to Charles, but the fact that he’s actually showing such intense aggressive protection I think brings a whole new side to his character. I mean, if I’m not mistaken, that’s the first aggression we’ve seen from him. I say kudos for bringing that out. And thanks for the story. Especially the humor.
Anybody notice how the “Sun” behind the bird gets bigger as the bird gets closer? Sinderella, that light is the bird’s head!
_______________________________
Lol, no that’s a zoom-in on the bird, not it gettin closer.
And yeah it is a big bird!
But if this didn’t happen, Charles would be carrying around a dead Townsen and wouldn’t be getting on with his job! And now Townsen is with his dead brothers, so it’s all good.
It is the concrete rule of nature.
To be a part of nature, all must return to its womb.
Charles needs to carry on, without the burden of his friend’s death.
Conflict is needed to disrupt the blance and order so that change may happen.
All change brings good things at the cost of bad thing happenening.
Okay, so the title sounds positive… and I know that right now it’s all supposed to be sad and everything but I really burst out laughing at the last panel…
Humm, so Townsen is not dead after all? Not quite how I’d imagined it… But I guess it works.
Can’t wait for more. Seven days is too much, I swear.
Well, two things, first: OMG! the sun beams look like arms and legs! It IS the Legendary Eagle of Resurrection! second: its either that or the Hawk of Death
Oh my GOD! Don’t you have a heart at all?! You must give Townsend back to us. I’m just crying and crying every time I see the few previous strips. I think my eyes have quite dried out, because now I’m only crying inside. Damn you for touching me so bloody deep.
NO! STOP THAT! YOU ARE JUST GIVING US DEPRESSING COMIC AFTER ANOTHER! STOOOOOP! LEAVE TOWNSEN ALONE!!!!!!!
Gah, enough rant. Love the artwork, but WHAT IS YOUR BEEF WITH THAT FOX?! GAH!
I love Charles’ expression amidst the feathers in the last panel, and the way he’s holding Townsen in the 6th panel with one arm as the mystery bird approaches – both tenderly, delicately, and strong and supportive at the same time. I’m trusting that our little fox is okay, whatever just happened — but I’d prefer that he be okay-alive, very soon.
incredible story telling and artwork as always. keep it up — guess we just have to trust you now. :)
So this is a large, black, faceless, and talon’d bird that has swooped in and taken Townsen… It seems menecing, but has anyone noticed the “god rays” radiating out from behind the bird?
I’m willing to bet it is like the “king eagles” from Lord of the Rings, and if not it is just “the wind”.
Or maybe TACC hit the bird with such force that it vaporized in a puff of feathers and the resulting blast carried townsen over the next hill, so TACC is sitting there like “I can punch THAT hard!?” :P
… or maybe not…
I just noticed. Charles isn’t looking up or chasing a bird that’s getting away with a fox in it’s talons, he’s standing there looking shocked. The bird grabbed Townsen and disappeared. Neeto.
wow. I just came agcross your work today thanks to a long line of links that got me to your cameo sketches, I think originating at Anders loves Maria….
Amazing art, and interesting story telling with a silent main character. What a tough time to come into the story though!!
Why the gray/green tones? I admit it is cool and different, sort of a sepia effect. Just wondered, is there a reason behind it other than it looks so darned good?
I’m hoping that Karl is a Beatles/George Harrison fan, thus the title:
Little darling, it’s been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it’s all right
Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it’s all right
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes…
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes…
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes…
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes…
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes…
Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been clear
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it’s all right
It’s all right
….Is it just me, or have some of the comments to this webcomic reached the point of delirium?
Anyway. The little fox’s alleged death was rather interesting. And why did the hunter apparently disappear? Interesting!
However, I am a bit confused about the mystical bird. I have confidence it will all make sense in later episodes.
(Also, it seems I’m the only one here who hopes the cute foxy is dead? I’m starting to wonder wether it’s my fault for not getting that much emotionally involved in the story, or if it’s just my narrative sense who keeps telling me it wants to see originality.)
Awesome comic, loving it as always. Another comment caught my eye:
Your argument, Shagbark, is based on your assumption that the bird physically
snatched the fox out of charles’ arms. From charles’ puzzled expression in the last panel, its obvious that there was no struggle or fight; for which he had already braced himself for in his previous panel. Something mystical happened. (abracadabra! Feathers!!)
October 8th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
NO! What is that?!? I sure hope it’s either that scary lion or Moonbear swooping into save him….and not like a meat-eating vulture..
October 8th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
nooo, so he’s dead for real? ;_;
October 8th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
…Well, now I don’t know WHAT to think.
October 8th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
…and here begins another week of wondering what will happen…
October 8th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
Ummm. Vultures do not take meat out of people’s … Abominable’s hands. Which is not to say that that was a normal vulture.
October 8th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
Maybe I played too much final fantasy, but maybe that’s a phoenix…?
October 8th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
It could be death coming to carry him away.
October 8th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
Sweet! It’s the Legendary Eagle of Resurrection! I was hoping he’s show up, now Townsen’s gonna be just fine. Whew, I was worried for a minute there, but not now. WHAT do you have against poor Townsen?! you sick sick man!………… I CANT WAIT ANOTHER 7 DAYS! early release? pweddy pweez?
October 8th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
I feel like CC in the last panel: WTF just happened?
October 8th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
Ravens are an alternate representation of valkyries… At any rate, I’m definitely reading the bird as a psychopomp.
Love the story so far, I’m really enjoying it.
October 8th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
I actually stayed up for this and it does fill me with hope… Look at Charles’s expression in the last frame… If The bird/vulture had cleared off with Townsen then surely Charles would be looking upwards and not perplexed… (IT COULD BE SAD but I’m going with perplexed as I’d hate to think poor Towsen as bird food) I think the body’s have gone BUT WHERE???

October 8th, 2008 at 6:26 pm
So my first reaction was “Oh Sh*t!”.
My second reaction was “Wait, what?”
And my third? “I have to wait at least a week for this to be resolved.”
I don’t really think next week is going to answer my questions. But I’m waiting (with a lot of anxiety) for the next installment.
October 8th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
i think its moon bear
October 8th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
The plot thickens. Actually, it is more like ’solidifies’ by now. I agree with one of the previous posters, it seems like it is death come to take him away, and CC can’t do anything to stop it from taking his friend.

i hope townsen is alright T_T
October 8th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
you have *got* to be kidding me!
I think this story is giving me a stomach ulcer.
October 8th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
didn’t an eagle come pick of our Charles a while ago and plop him down on the mountain? Maybe the same bird?
October 8th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
I haven’t really been following the comments too closely, but even though I really hope Townsend ends up ok, I hope more that popular opinion doesn’t sway the story. I have confidence in it. :)
October 8th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
Ok, now you’re just torturing us for fun…
October 8th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
CC needs to work on his reflex’s!
It was not an Eagle that plopped him on the mountain earlier, it was a big bear, or a bear that became massive and held CC in its paw.
October 8th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
That’s a hell of a bird.
October 8th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
EPIC.

October 8th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Those two lighter, gray feathers in the last frame make that image. Shows the movement. Love it.
October 8th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
You sure know how to make people angry, disappointed, sad and expectant at you all at the same time.
But mostly, sad and angry
=’(
October 8th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
this one is a little too confusing.
maybe it’s supposed to be, I don’t know. but like, what happened.
October 8th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
Hooray for Horus!
October 8th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
O_O
Moon……thing?
(scratch that)
Sun……thing?
XD I love it
October 8th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
The dark bird cometh.
His migration is marked.
He prepares for departure.
He comes soon to carry my soul away.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
man, beaten by a bird. charles hasn’t won a fight since he took on that rabbit trap so long ago.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Damnit, Karl! Why do you hate us so much?
October 8th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Deus ex machina…

Is this a headless bird?
October 8th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
What the…? I must say, the last several weeks have made this one of my favorite comics, online or print. Excellent story telling, sir.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Man, Karl. I love every minute of this.
Storytelling, at its finest: with no words at all.
I always get a bit of an elation after reading one of these, good or bad. It cheers me up on a bad day. I can’t wait to see how it turns out!
October 8th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
Oy! From the layout of the strip and the look on Charle’s face, He’s dreaming, hallucinating, or like someone above said the bird was death coming to get Townsen. I personally think Charles is asleep and is having difficulties coping with what just happend. He appears as though he’s growing a stronger personality, though. Go Charles!
October 8th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
I just noticed Townsen’s little paws hanging down in panel 6
I almost cried
October 8th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
You’re killin’ me! Too much suspense! Can’t make it another week! Must know now!
October 8th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
the tenderness in his hand lying on townsen in panel 2, delicately resting on/protecting his body, is heartbreaking.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:03 am

and 5) While Charles has shown incompetence and naivete with social behavior, when feeling threatened he does not hesitate to land a punch or destroy something.

Oh /hell/ no you didn’t… Frekking deathbirds! Always rushing the mourning/morning-! >:(=
October 9th, 2008 at 12:55 am
this is wonderful!!! publish a book, karl! c’mon!!!
you should be better paid for these!
October 9th, 2008 at 1:02 am
I refuse to read this anymore. It’s so much better when you get the continual storyline.
I’ll be back in a month.
Maybe two.
Keep going!
October 9th, 2008 at 1:51 am

Wow… look at panel 6 … that look gave me shivers …
And the WTF look of Charles on the last panel … yah, that says it all.
excellent work!

This is a good thing… I think.

Really enjoying this strip, came over from GUcomics, and truly impressed with the artwork and storyline. Keep up the excellent work.
October 9th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
Aw, maaaaaaaan…
Still. Your expressions are absolutely incredible. “You want him? Come and claim him!!”…and then FLOOF! “Guh?”
Wanna know what happens next wanna know what happens next can’t wait for next week!!

Where’s the moron that was blathering on and on during the last weeks’ strips about a butler, of all things?!!
Oh wait, hmm… uh, never mind…
October 10th, 2008 at 2:49 am

(Also, it seems I’m the only one here who hopes the cute foxy is dead? I’m starting to wonder wether it’s my fault for not getting that much emotionally involved in the story, or if it’s just my narrative sense who keeps telling me it wants to see originality.)

I love the comic!
As a whole. But this one strip isn’t believable. Just, physically… the bird couldn’t snatch him away suddenly. The geometry doesn’t work.
Sorry, I know I’m an ass for not commenting until I saw something that bothered me.

Feathers!!)

Wow.. I’m quite crushed. I only started reading today and here I am.
You are an undoubted excellent writer, as well as an artist. you capture emotions and moods with the mildest touch.
