Very funny, though the porcupine’s expression in the second panel is really creepy…. Hey, third comment, too. Woot! Would have been second if I was just one second earlier.
great comic mate, i love your humor, tho i see this comment space slowly turning into one of those “firsties, seconds, thirds” kid games, sigh… oh well…
At last! A succesful Pepe Le Peu!! Love the expressions. But we’ve got to know about Townsen and what happened to the bad guy with the gun who drew a bead on Charles
Great artwork as usual Karl – many thanks . I’ll also add my wishes for all the missing parties at the strip – but I will continue to wait . Just like the rabbit .
Man, ever since Walter Scott gave in to the readers and brought Athelstane back to life in a later chapter, people have been giving serialized authors hell. Karl, tell *your* story before you turn into Conan Doyle and kill CC!
It is annoying to hear the new visitors to the website clamor about where they want the story to go. I am sure Karl has been doing this long enough and has a plan for this work that won’t be deterred by catering to fans, but it’s still annoying to listen to in the meantime.
Bambi wouldn’t be Bambi if the fans were able to stop the writers with pleas such as “No! Don’t kill Bambi!” Life is filled with tragedy, and it is a powerful and purging device in literature.
Just remember that this is not a consumable, it’s a work of art. Support it if you like it, but go find something else to ‘fix’ if you don’t.
karl your work just keeps better and better! I absolutely love this story. It’s the highlight of my every wednesday to see what new treats you have given us.
OK, not for nothing, but would the internet white knights please lay off the people who are commenting (passionately, I’ll grant you) on whether Townsen lives or dies? HiredN00bs, first of all, Bambi’s mom was the one that got shot. Second, if you’ve ever taken a seven-year-old to see that movie, you’d know that they absolutely DO plea, with their parents, with the screen, with people on the way out to the car, for that moment not to have happened, to make it better. They just didn’t have an internet comment board to do it on.
You’re absolutely right that tragedy is a powerful and purging (I’m guessing you meant cathartic) device in art, and its side effect is empathy with the character, which is what you’re seeing here. It’s a sign that people are relating to the work, bonding with it on an emotional level, which I’m sure is something Karl would prefer to stony silence. I would also point out that Karl isn’t under any more obligation to change his story than the people who made Bambi were, nor does he seem like he has any plans to do so.
This is a positive board for fans of a great piece of work, and even the people who have been most vocal about the fate of the characters (including myself) have been good natured about it. Let’s not go dicking it up because you’ve appointed yourself Lord of Internet Manners. To follow your own advice, listening is involuntary, reading is not. If you don’t like the comments, don’t scroll down.
I actually enjoy these little deviations more than the acual plot (thats not an attack on your story writing skills, its just all a bit doom and gloom at the moment)
Just found the comic today. Read the entire archive to catch up. Amazing artwork and story-telling.
I have never felt led to comment on a webcomic before, but it would not be fitting for me to leave without telling you how incredible I think it is. Heart-warming, funny, suspenseful, insightful, tragic(?) – all the great elements that go into successful story-telling are found right here. And all wrapped in beautiful artwork. I thank you for the love, time, and effort you have put into this.
Fine Setting of jokes in that strip. That question “Do I smell or what?” and then Sissi the skunk (?) strolling by with some niiiice marten, that has something to it. I’ve had quite a chuckle just from that. *lmao*
I’m beginning to get the impression that the only thing the animals (besides Vivol) do all day is go to parties. Is that what life in Montreal is really like? :p
Well, I guess just don’t like parties or dances personally, so I can’t relate. Oh well.
Here’s maybe an idea for a future strip: what will they be dancing to? Who are the musicians?
A gorgeous webcomic, I just read the entite lot and what an emotional rollercoaster you have taken us on. Its a brave man to (possibly) kill of a highly popular character.
By the way, I found your comic through Anderslovesmaria.

Still not telling us what happens next with Charles and Townsen or Vivol and Moonbear? Should’ve guessed. Nice strip anyway (as always). :)
Edit: Yay, first comment by the way!

Beautiful work as always.
But…
You gotta be kidding me! I’ve got to know what happens to Townsen! Please, no more distractions next week. We can’t take it anymore!

All I want for Christmas is a copy of this book! C’mon, Santa!

Sounds to me like he’s just a tad prickly…
October 22nd, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Christ, that’s how I feel sometimes…
And although my opinion on the matter is biased (I work in advertising…), I love that skunk too!
October 22nd, 2008 at 3:36 pm
That rabbit is awsome. He’s just chillin’ while the porcupine is all stressed out…
Kind of reminds me of me :P
What is this dance we are hearing about? Is it another “Vivol party”?
October 22nd, 2008 at 3:55 pm

I love your one shot gags with the animals. Charles has taken a backseat for me.
October 22nd, 2008 at 4:27 pm
What a skunk lol
Next week, more on Townsen and CC right? right? :D
October 22nd, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Love your porcupine artwork!
October 22nd, 2008 at 4:48 pm
There is nothing else going to happen to Townsen. He is dead. That is all.

That porcupine must have some sort of Game disorder if he’s losing dates to a skunk.
Poor guy.

story of my life…
October 22nd, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Jackson is my personal internet hero.
Also, I’m privately naming the rabbit Hodge Podge. Too bad the porcupine isn’t a groundhog…
October 23rd, 2008 at 12:31 am
No girl wants to date a prick.
Sidenote: I just noticed that this comic can be translated into other languages- that’s so cool! It’s sad how much that amused me just now.
October 23rd, 2008 at 4:45 am

Great Strip!
October 24th, 2008 at 7:07 am
I still can’t believe how well you can make them express their exact thoughts through their expression. I know exacly what they are thinking about :D
October 25th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
I’d like to respectfully disagree with Jarreth. The porcupine’s expression in panel 2 is the funniest thing in this entire strip. A+
October 26th, 2008 at 7:02 am
The gun was still there ,but why didn’t Charles get hurt ? would you also explain a little little bit ? Xixi
October 26th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
O_o Not enough apparently.

Just read all 69 strips in the last hour or so (since I saw the webomics.com link). Now I have to wait a week for each episode! Aaargh.
Fantastic work. Best and most moving and funny comic I’ve come across in years.
