If that flock of birds is tied in with the previous flock – that means TACC – Moon Bear – Vivol and the Wind (lion) are in somewhat close configurations . A joining of forces ? A few too many possibilities to make a guess at this point . I – like everyone else will just have to wait . Dang it !
By the way – Karl – thank you for your early and consistent posts lately – does make the waiting easier (somewhat that is)
Aside: on the off chance there’s some sort of reference I’m missing in the concept of a lion with machiavellian overtones, I’m not sure if I should flattered or insulted…
Ugh, this is all getting too deep and confusing!!!
Why does this story intrigue me so much! Argh!
Now, onto the comments.
So moon bear is the small one. Seeing how “moon bear” picked up TACC and placed him on the mountain where he met “the wind” I’m guessing something awful happens to him down the road. Perhaps the hunter?
And “the wind” seems to take many forms. First the wind is a lion, then the lion is the sky, then the sky is full of birds, then the birds are the wind… are we dealing with a shape-shifter of sorts?
Did anyone else seem to notice how the circus is deserted? I know it is closed, but there has to be some people to tend to the animals and such. It looks more than slightly disheveled as well…
I need to wait for the book, and plot out each scene chronologically… This is getting a little hectic, which always makes for a great story.
Keep it coming Karl, you have a rare gift.
dude, did you grow up IN or near a zoo? or the jungle? your animal drawings are phenomenal!!! srsly wtf?
makes me want to give up art for a living and start…uh…well I have no other skills…so..um
keep up the good work!
Wait… why do some of you keep saying the lion is the wind? When Townsen asked him if he was the wind, he said no. I thought that the birds are the wind. Especially that big one. The lion… is… the night? Or something like that.
Moonbear strikes me as more of a deity. He wouldn’t necessarily have to die to undergo that transformation, but knowing this strip he will. Probably saving Vivol too just so we all use an extra kleenex.

OMG, it’s a lion! Get in the (box)car!
November 5th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
Thank you Karl. I strongly suspected that this week we’d see the 4th part of the story.
November 5th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Do you even know how to make drawings that aren’t super pretty? Looking fantastic

Interesting, the big bear is one that wants revenge, and now the Lion who has questionable motives appears.
Shall we seen moon bear and Vivol free with Vivol seeking his revenge on humans?

Intrigue!

Flattered, of course! :)
When are you coming to visit me in Montréal?
November 5th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
… thanks Karl…
… I’m really enjoying the subtleties as much as anything else (and there is *lots*) – eg. the ‘falling’ beams of light in panel 4… lovely touch

This is one of your most beautiful, I think. The light and Vivol’s sweet benevolence in panel 4… wonderful.
November 6th, 2008 at 7:50 am
Absolutely bloody gorgeous. The wait between weekly strips feels like it keeps getting longer and longer and longer…I can’t wait for next week!
November 6th, 2008 at 8:16 am
Am I stupid, or what? This is the first time I’ve noticed the moon bear is a kodiak. Duh!

Townsen.

November 6th, 2008 at 11:23 am
¡¡Viva Vivol!
November 6th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
I love the transition from the birds to this strip.
November 6th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
I just realized that if this has happened before, and in the present day Moon Bear is a ghost of some kind… We’re going to see more deaths, right?

Ah. Very sweet, yet sad…and there’s that dang lion again.
I love the gentleness in Vivol’s ‘voice.’
November 6th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
i sense some sweet sweet retribution coming… please say im right!
November 7th, 2008 at 8:00 am
oooo sn-AP!
November 9th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
I’m thinking there’s a lot more to Moon Bear than meets the eye.
November 10th, 2008 at 7:33 am
Agreed Noah, about Moonbear being a “Deity”. The Lion certainly was, and here he is.
I’m not sure I could stand watching the death of another beloved character.

Is it weird that I think “Moon Bear” looks a bit like a sun bear?
