even without catching the reference until a few minutes later, that was hysterical.
then I got the reference and it was even better. That is a great way to do a portrait of another artist, rather than use their actual face, insert their style/content…perhaps I should check out Anders fully sometime.
Wow, this is pure gold, it made me laugh, while admiring the wonderful art. I did not once think of townsend during this whole strip. Fantastic grade A.
That was amazing… Pure beauty. I love it!
Plus I laughed really, really hard. I’ll be laughing about this the rest of the day. Thanks for this nice distraction and release of stress while I’m going crazy due to school.
Add my voice to the chorus of cheers! What an homage! I love how you build up the drama, then break it down with a pull back to the theatre audience, and have it all reflect back to the drama in Anders & Maria. Brilliant! I am continually thrilled by your work.
Great, but I’m afraid I don’t understand what it’s referencing.
It’s something called “Anders Loves Maria”, apparently? I checked it out, but it seems like one of those long webcomics that you have to read from the beginning to understand. I’m just not part of that community (though apparently everyone else on the internet reads it, judging from these comments).
Anyway, great comic. I especially love the rabbit’s expression in the 6th panel.
Another thought: This is a really nice (and much-needed) refreshing bucket of cold water on all of the serious plot stuff that was going on in the past few weeks. Even “The Mediators” and “Eau de Toilette” weren’t enough to really change the tone I think, but this one is like a ray of sunshine.
Mind you, I love the serious stuff, but it was beginning to feel a little oppressive and complex for too long.
No idea of who “Anders” and “Maria” are supposed to be, but if it’s a lengthy webcomic centered on a shallow love comedy, I think I’ll pass.
However, even by not getting the implied reference, this strip was hilarious. A bit crazy, too. You can’t even start to think that “The Abominable Charles Christopher” is a serious story, than stuff like this pops up. XD
‘Anders loves Maria’ Is far more than just a shallow love comedy, though I think thats what allot of skim readers might peg it as.
Personally I view its content as some kind of warped psychological rubix cube, with its author trying to discover which relationship combinations will infuriate its audience the most.
I wasn’t familiar with ALM either, but the rabbit’s such a good actress, it didn’t matter. Maybe she can do Dromiceiomimus when you cover Dinosaur comics.
To a previous poster…I think your “sloth” is a porcupine.
Oh, thank you for this comic. I’ve been following ALM for quite awhile, but her link to your homage is how I found you. TACC is absolutely beautiful on every level. You have yet another reader.
Wow there are a lot of comments. Not surprised.
I just read through the archives (I go the link from Anders Loves Maria, haha)…
You are so awesome! Forever!
It is a story all it’s own, and it reminds me of Bone and Totoro and other such things, but it is only cos it’s sooo good! If you ever print a book, I’d definitely buy it, and I bet you could get it published far and wide if you wanted to.
I am the same as Mary Tee above me. Found this on Anders Loves Maria.
This comic is so wonderful! The art is spectacular, the characters have wonderful personality and the story is extremely to my liking! The humor and expressions are priceless! I’m looking forward to continuing the rest of the comic!
This is pure brilliance. Having read both strips for quite a while, the unexpectedness of this connection gave me a laugh. The soulful eyes of the rabbit have put a smile on my face all day. Thank you! (:
im re-reading as you take a break, and the funniest part about this strip is last time i read it, i wasnt following anders loves maria. whole new level of funny ^_^

November 12th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
When I got the joke, I laughed my ass off. Thank you, so much, for brightening my afternoon.
November 12th, 2008 at 1:30 pm

November 12th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Excellent tribute–and I second the BNS suggestion, I’d love to see what Ramon and Rob would look like CC-ified.
November 12th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
I third the BNS tribute!
awesome comic
November 12th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
I agree with Kristin, Maria’s eyes are great!!
November 12th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Thanks guys!
I’m not sure if you know this, but I did a Butternut guest strip a short while back. Just not as animals.

Wow, this is pure gold, it made me laugh, while admiring the wonderful art. I did not once think of townsend during this whole strip. Fantastic grade A.
This is sure to be one of the classic episodes.

November 12th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
Oh man, it took me a minute, but I finally got it ! It’s brilliant !
November 12th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Okay, that rabbit is a good actor. Disturbingly good. Thanks for bringing back my Watership Down movie nightmares >_<.
November 12th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
Add my voice to the chorus of cheers! What an homage! I love how you build up the drama, then break it down with a pull back to the theatre audience, and have it all reflect back to the drama in Anders & Maria. Brilliant! I am continually thrilled by your work.

This is absolutely brilliant!
November 12th, 2008 at 4:43 pm

A sloth? Really? WHERE is this forest again?
November 12th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Sinblossom…it has a bigfoot in it.
Why draw the line at slothes?
November 12th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Haha, that was great!
I knew it was odd for a rabbit to be involved with a fox…
Looks like things are going well in… now what is the name of the woods? I swear we heard it before… maybe not. idk lol
Still dying to see what happens with TACC and Townsen but this could could on for a few more weeks and I’d be fine with it.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
The racoon’s all shouting what we’re all thinking!
November 12th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Oh, Karl, that’s my favourite one yet!
November 12th, 2008 at 8:53 pm

Best strip Yet… The Rabbit’s eyes Superb!
November 12th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
This is ridiculous. You can’t get us hooked on Charles and Townsen, and then make us wait months to see what the hell happens next. Goodbye, Karl.
November 13th, 2008 at 12:43 am
I *wondered* why Renee’s Twitter icon had suddenly changed to a (clearly ACC) rabbit…
November 13th, 2008 at 1:42 am
but we all know, deep down inside, Anders Loves Maria
November 13th, 2008 at 1:55 am
Haha This is great!!

November 13th, 2008 at 10:08 am
Love, love, LOVE the sensitive raccoon. His dialogue and poses fit each other perfectly, and he’s just… Seventh panel. “When did this happen??!”
November 13th, 2008 at 10:35 am

Pfft, at first I was like, “What the hell?” But by the end I was practically on by back with laughter. Great work!
November 15th, 2008 at 2:07 am
You have no idea how close this is to something that actually happened to me tonight, and the fox mirrored my own thoughts almost exactly.
You NEVER fail, even in weird situations.
November 15th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Great comedy and artwork. Love the comic entirely. The eyes on the hare are creeping me out though. Death-like gloss.
November 17th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Wow! I found ACC via Anders loves Maria. Just finished reading the archives!
I’m hooked! can’t wait to find out what happens with the bears and the Townsen etc! And I would love a tshirt with the bee dance on it. Love it!
November 18th, 2008 at 4:29 am
