Ask Karl!
Hi everybody! Karl, here. I just wanted to take a moment to welcome all the new readers this week and to thank you all for the glowing praise you’ve been sending me via email. I read them all and I follow all the comments and, believe it or not, a lot of the discussion here affects my approach to the pacing of the story and the tone of the strip. That’s what makes the web such a fantastic medium.
But since I was getting all this mail, I thought I’d start a new blog segment here called ‘Ask Karl’, where I’ll answer some of your questions more directly.
Question 1:
Hello,
I came across your comic when Rene form Anders loves Maria linked to it. I am taken aback at how beautiful the art is, how wonderful the storyline, and how I am now completely addicted to it. I have but one small request: I love bunnies, and I noticed you have a rabbit/ hare in the story. Is there any way we could have this character pop up more? Again, please accept my deepest thanks for creating something so beautiful. I am now a constant reader!
Thanks,
Meg from Washington, DC
Thanks, Meg!
This is a question I’ve been asking myself for the last several months. The rabbit has been featured on and off since the beginning of the comic, but after the New Year’s strip I just couldn’t find a place to work him back into the story, even though I wanted to. Originally, I’d intended to use the character as a companion to Vivol, but that just didn’t feel right. Vivol is an old loner, and I already have enough comedic duos running around the forest.
I used him in the recent porcupine-needs-a-date-to-the-dance strip because I needed someone for the porcupine to complain to and the rabbit was a familiar face. But now, I’m not sure. As with most of these characters, I have no idea how they’ll incorporate themselves into the bigger picture but they always manage to join the flow somehow. But there is a new rabbit character in the picture now, so who knows.
That’s it for now! If you have any burning questions about the Charles Christopher, the comic, the process, …my cat… anything, shoot me an email at mail@abominable.cc with the subject ‘Ask Karl’!

Wonderful! If I ever have a question worth asking, I actually have a change to get it answered.

I have yet to find another webcomic that strikes such a deep chord with me as this one. You’ve found yet another avid reader, and in the event that I should have a meaningful question to ask, I will. But for now, thank you for this brilliant and evocative… Hell, I feel odd calling it a comic since it’s definitely deeper than that. But thank you all the same.

Perhaps we can call it an online graphic novel, Devia Luna. :)

I’m ever so worried about Townsen, everything else i think you will handle brilliantly.

Oh goodness, this made so little sense. I’m with Sarah–I miss Townsen really terribly. I love the artwork of this comic, and how deep certain strips are, while others are simply hilarious. I printed out a few to decorate some of my school supplies to keep me entertained while learning about fee simple estates and the like. I love “Blame it on the Rain!”

i have to agree with everyone this is definitely a beautiful work you got going here, so different from any other webcomic I’ve ever seen I’d definitely call it an online graphic novel. Speaking of which do you plan on making this into a graphic novel once you’ve finished the plot, or a first chapter, because it would be amazing! I’m excited to see how you’ll tie in the other animals (if at all) I’ve got a feeling they’ll be inevitably involved later on in the plot… keep up the great work!

The art in your strip is nothing short of amazing! The only real question is how do you have time to get it all done with your other projects? Nice Job!

Wonderful, as always.

The only bad thing here is numbskulls with no-vowel monickers who can only manage a one-word comment. Rather a sorry show. Never let this sort get to you, Karl. Your artwork is beautiful, your stories are lovely, your humour is great, and your characters… well, we’ve seen how people fall for your characters. Your work is very much loved and appreciated. I love and appreciate it, anyway.
