Love the bibs!
November 19th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
wow… utterly confused…. However, it is good to see Townsen at least talking again… even if it is only in Charles’ dream. I’m not exactly sure what to make of this.. I think I’ll have to mull over it some more. I still love it, though!
November 19th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
thats..surreal
Townsen ; _ ;
November 19th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Wooooaaaaaahhhhhh.
Thats a game changer right there.
November 19th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
I love a good dream
November 19th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
if androids dream of electric sheep this surely explains what abominable boys dream of.
beautiful as always hombre.
i love the stylization of charles thats creeping in slightly in panels 2 & 5.
keep up the magic!
November 19th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Lemme see now – Charles – alive and startled – Townsend – wishful dream or a foretelling – hmmm . Love the whole scene – looking forward to seeing if any of this will play out in the coming issues . Great as usual Karl – many thanks .
November 19th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
His bib is a lion! Tricky!
November 19th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
I absolutely adore the fifth panel.
great as always, and well worth the wait.
November 19th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Haha, and Townsen has the birdon his- love the symbolism in this comic.
Also, I kinda want there to be a Townsen plushie, I just love him so much!
November 19th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
I SAW THIS AND I FREAKED OUT CAUSE OF TOWNSEN. Sadly, it was only a dream ><
Love @ Townsen
November 19th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
YAY!!! TOWNSEN FINALLY!!!!
Boo it’s just a dream!
November 19th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
I just gotta say that expression on the ‘Father Bear”s face is amazing,, for some reason that was really striking. Well done.
November 19th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
Whoa! Twin Peaks crazy!
TOWNSEN!!!!!
Hmm … Charles is wearing a lion bib and Townsen is wearing a bird bib. Nice (and sad).
November 19th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
That’s so sad. It seems like Townsen here is the symbol of ACC’s failure. Failure to protect, in this case.
November 19th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
Man, you certainly have a gift for the unexpected. Not once when reading this comic have I ever thought “saw that coming.”
November 19th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
Aw man, never commented before, but I seriously wanted to cry at the sight of Townsen and then the realization that it’s only a dream.
HE’S JUST SO CUTE AND INNOCENT, WHY? =(
November 20th, 2008 at 12:02 am
Townsen’s wearing a bib!!! I could die of cuteness!
November 20th, 2008 at 12:36 am
dude… you really know how to keep me coming back… i miss Townsen and still hold out hope he is ok… and i like the appearance of Lion on the bib! you sneaky lil so n so!
November 20th, 2008 at 12:59 am
I hate to say the same thing as others, but…. I LOVE THAT LION BIB!!! Also, Townsen is very cute in that position. Puppy.
November 20th, 2008 at 1:25 am
Wow, just wow. I really find Townsen’s words so meaningful, although short. I don’t know if it was intentional, but it reminds me of people I’ve lost, and the hope they had in me, I see that reflected in Charles Christopher.
I guess what really draws me to your comic (other than the amazing artwork) is that you’ve found a character that is so relateable. Lost, trying to find a way, any way really that you think might result in a decent end. He doesn’t speak so I place my own words, thoughts and feelings on his expressions and actions.
Really, REALLY good work Karl. I hope you get as much out of this webcomic as we all do.
November 20th, 2008 at 3:25 am
This is the most confused I’ve been all week…
November 20th, 2008 at 4:41 am
So wait, if an Abominable Charles Christopher is part bear (or a deformed bear) would that explain the dream? A childhood memory? Or if he is part human that would explain the household type scene, but it is… warped.
And he considers the snow fox a part of his family that part is clear, but TACC has never met the bears as far as the strip goes… except for moonbear.
Lion and bird on the bibs, you can choke on the correlation. I will be thirsting (get it? Tea time?) for the relation this dream has to the story.
This is the most subtle, blatant, gritty, beautiful, funny, sad, entertaining, confusing, and overal enthralling comic I have ever read…
period.
Thanks Karl
November 20th, 2008 at 5:24 am
Was Christopher raised by bears, or do those two bears only symbolize the Moonbear and Vivol? I think it’s much probably the latter. Bears don’t smoke or use teacups.
The face of daddy bear on panel 4 is really expressive. I love it. You should try one of those comics with non-talking animals, like Masashi Tanaka’s “Gon”.
November 20th, 2008 at 7:15 am
Townsend! Yay! This is awesome and beautiful as always. I love the overtone of warnings and that even in his dreams CC doesnt speak.
November 20th, 2008 at 7:57 am
awesome as always!!
there’s something about that kind of dreams, that mistery of some kind of ‘hidden’ messaage, that i find really cool
November 20th, 2008 at 8:20 am
um, OMG.

Erect and sublime, for one moment of time.
In the next, that wild figure they saw
(As if stung by a spasm) plunge into a chasm,
While they waited and listened in awe.
… for some reason your thematic maneuverings, and particularly on this instance, remind me of Lewis Carrol…
… plus, I like how you’ve got Townsen sitting up – quite right, sir, quite right…
November 20th, 2008 at 10:17 am
If Townsen is ending up as a symbol of failure to protect, perhaps it’s more appropriate to distinguish him – not as a failure – but as a reality. You can’t protect everyone; even if you never let them go, even if you smother them, that’s just hurting in a different way. The only sure way to keep someone from harm everafter is to send them to the only truly safe place, where no harm can come to them: death. And, clearly, that is no way to live.
November 20th, 2008 at 11:36 am
wow… this is really cool…. I missed that little buddy! god, you almost made me cry… great work
November 20th, 2008 at 11:48 am
Oh man, the expressions, THE EXPRESSIONS. Especially the papa bear’s over-the-shoulder scowl.
November 20th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
amazin’…..
November 20th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
Words fail me. I see many elements turning, spinning, converging, and wonder what the wills of the players will do to the ripples. This is beautiful, beautiful work.
November 20th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
stunning as ever, Karl.
FYI: your RSS feeds aren’t kicking in. Last known feed was Vivol and moon bear. good thing my FB notifier gave me the update!
November 20th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
My brain is confused. The bibs are great.
November 20th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
So, is Charles a mutated bear?
November 20th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
Ominous and oddly emotional.
November 20th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
!!
November 21st, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Awwww…Townsen is just adorable… Sitting up with his paws between his legs like a child would… I have always loved your drawing style and the story line.. Keep up the good work..
November 21st, 2008 at 6:34 pm
lovely.
November 22nd, 2008 at 4:37 am
marvelous! first comment for me, but this strip deserves it. you have so much talent, thanks for sharing with us.
November 23rd, 2008 at 6:16 am
Say, how come this one and the previous one are not linked to in the archive?
November 23rd, 2008 at 6:31 am
Actually, none of the comics after Oct. 22 are in the archive. Weird.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:19 am
Totally worth the wait. I miss Townsen
November 24th, 2008 at 10:23 am
Everything shows up in the archive on my end. I think what’s happening is that I installed a cacheing plugin in October and you’re getting older, cached pages. I’ll have to look into it, but emptying your browser’s cache might solve the problem.

Oh no, not the “talking bears are my parents and there’s a talking fox at the table with me and we’re wearing bibs” dream again!! I stopped having that years ago but this strip has me back in therapy. How can I ever thank you, Free Electroshock, boojah!!
November 25th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Man, the look on Townsen’s face in the sixth panel is killing meeee ; A ;
November 26th, 2008 at 11:58 am
I’ve read this from beginning to end over the last few days. Excellent work, by far one of the best webcomics I’ve read in a long time. Keep it up!
November 27th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
…Townsen… *chokes up*
November 30th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
Thanks for turning me on to Wojciech Kilar!
March 27th, 2009 at 7:38 pm
So, Charles is wearing a lion bib and Bravado (look, I’ve been reading these all in one sitting, leave me be) is wearing a birdie one. Significant?
No. No, don’t even try to comprehend it, Aer. Karl is just too smart/strange for you to predict it. Just go with it… where ever it goes.
April 8th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
Man, you’re awesome.
March 6th, 2010 at 10:58 pm
There are so many things I could try to pull from this.. but
I’ll just leave on the note that I love this page to death.
July 8th, 2010 at 11:44 pm
Aww i love his little lion bib
February 10th, 2011 at 3:34 am
I should just mention that this strip gives me the heeby-jo-jeebies.
April 17th, 2011 at 8:25 pm
Wait, wait… on the bibs; Charles has a lion while Townsen has a bird. Significant? Relating to the spirit animals we’ve seen/will see?
