I guess I’m just more bothered by deaths in more realistically-drawn and paced comics like ACC, because unlike many other comics the characters feel real.
This is greeeat art!!! As someone said before though, I completely loved the first four panels but the fifth one was a bit too shocking and depressing… I kinda find it didn’t follow the humour of the previous panels, too dark…
But anyway, I’ll always love Charles Christopher!
Happy 2009
I liked this strip as an individual comic.
But I wonder: When is the story going to continue? I know this site is free and i don’t want to nag, but I would really appreciate a process in the main story.
Panel three disturbingly reminds me of a B-grade, sci-fi movie called “The Killer Shrews”. The black, soulless eye of the rat is the same as that of the killer shrew.
“Ahh-ch-ch-ch-ch!”
Other than that, I agree with tiggertoo; comeuppance for an act of hubris is always in order and so seldom delivered. Thank-you, Karl.
You know, I’m not complaining one bit about the progress of the cartoon, because the cartoonist is kinda like the god of his little world, and he can do whatever he wants with it. It’s always beautiful and always entertaining. If one wants to direct how the strip evolves, then one can pay Karl what he might demand and become the executive producer/director of the strip.

XD this is a really good one!
i love the chipmunk’s expression

I just love the first four panels, but the ending is a bit depressing, isn’t it? Someone dies, after all… kinda puts a damper on the humour.
(also, strictly speaking, 2009 is the year of the Ox, not the Owl)

That was delightfully dark and humorous. Kudos, good sir.
December 31st, 2008 at 4:15 pm
Well played . One more of these to ease us past the New Year- and then – perhaps(hint) – back to Charles ?
December 31st, 2008 at 4:26 pm
Don’t have anything to say but happy new year anyway.
December 31st, 2008 at 5:39 pm
mwahahahaha…that’s a good one. Happy New Year!
December 31st, 2008 at 5:46 pm
You do know there are still 26 days in the Year of the Rat…?
December 31st, 2008 at 5:53 pm
26 days out of 366 – I’d say that’s “about to end”
December 31st, 2008 at 6:08 pm
I find it quite humorous. Depressing? Hardly.
December 31st, 2008 at 7:03 pm
The Year of the Rat doesn’t technically end until January 26th. ;3
Cute comic though!
December 31st, 2008 at 7:19 pm
“What about you, friend? Year of the Rat??”, “DON’T TOUCH ME!!”
I find that humorous on many levels! Good job! =D
And Happy New Year!
December 31st, 2008 at 7:37 pm
panel 3 will probably give me nightmares. thanks.
December 31st, 2008 at 8:06 pm

for a second, I was going to note how strong that wind was.
But then I realized that wasn’t some sort of tree in the background.
January 1st, 2009 at 11:43 am
Nice strip !
And a happy new year.
January 1st, 2009 at 11:43 am
Love this kind of humor. The “dont touch me part” made me lo tool.

Few things are more satisfying than seeing the Universe give prompt and final attention to an act of hubris.
Heh, “Don’t touch me!!”
January 2nd, 2009 at 3:24 am
DON’T TOUCH ME@!
Awesome panel.
Always nice to see a rat’s demise. Although, at first I thought it was just the wind. Then I realized… wait, Mr. Owl, are you the wind?
January 2nd, 2009 at 3:40 am
I’m of the Rat sign, by the way. I like it. X3
I guess I should right-click and save this one!
January 2nd, 2009 at 4:06 am
Awww. I love his enthusiasm, but the last panel was kind of sad, though funny at the same time. xD
Happy New Year!
January 2nd, 2009 at 5:46 am
Chinese new year is the end of January. That rat’s got one more month! Oy! Owl! Drop him and come back on the 26th, hey?
January 2nd, 2009 at 7:06 am
Happy new year!
not at all depresing for me.
January 2nd, 2009 at 8:39 am

Loved it!
January 2nd, 2009 at 12:21 pm
Creepy.
January 2nd, 2009 at 3:07 pm
Not depressing at all! Someone gets to eat today.
It would be depressing if the rat came across poison which would not only take out the rat but higher-ups on the food chain.
January 2nd, 2009 at 7:17 pm
Awesome! Pannel 4 could make a cool shirt. Rat Revolution!
January 2nd, 2009 at 8:09 pm
That was great, it made me laugh. Loved it. Happy New Year!
January 2nd, 2009 at 11:08 pm
lol. that was so silly. poor rat…
January 3rd, 2009 at 3:45 am
Everyone I know says I think too much, but that feather in the last panel reminds me of CC’s feathers…
January 4th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
Wow, this was just awesome on so many levels.

Keep on keepin on !
March 27th, 2009 at 7:48 pm
Ratty? *sniffle* Well, looked like he had rabies anyway
May 15th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Being a horse and barn owner, I had no sympathy for the death of the Rat.
You go, Owl. Take it to your misguided son!
March 6th, 2010 at 11:29 pm
haha, well played.. another amusing scene.
February 4th, 2011 at 5:04 pm
Rat’s aren’t really that bad, it was the fleas on the rats that caused the Black Death after all.
