“Cracking” indeed – well played Mr. K . Glad to see that Charles is back on the trail . Would the call that “Shipley’s surfaced from the narrows” have any thing to do with the way that ACC is headed ? Guess we’ll just have to wait now – won’t we.
Welcome back from the com – glad to hear you enjoyed yourself – wish I could have been there .
Aiyai. If only the Habs would start playing like that!
I particularly like the expression on the otter in the back of panel 2 with her paws clutched together – like a little kid at her first live match!
Aw, Charles looks so lonely in the last panel. I hope he doesn’t experience any more tragedy too soon.
Also, I hope he knows how to swim, just in case!
I love Chris’s expression in the fourth panel and the fact that he has otters leaping jubilantly about him makes it even more hilarious. My compliments Kerschl on another well crafted strip.
Is that an otter on the log or just a branch sticking off it? I can’t tell. Recent history shows it isn’t safe to be ACC’s companion. At any rate, if otters use crabs for crisps, I wonder what they buy in rounds for celebration?
I’m glad to see Charles has not forgotten Townsend, no matter what the lion said. If you can’t save your friends and loved ones, what use is saving the world?
Of all the web comics I read, this is my absolute favorite for many reasons (not the least of which is the brilliant facial expressions!). Thank you for sharing your incredible talent with the world.
I love the otters’ growing suspense. Will the Bounders do it?? But by far CC’s expression in the midst of jubilation is awesome. This is not his thing. He’s on a mission, and this was just a bit of a detour.
I’ve been reading CC for a little less than a year now and I think I just figured out one of the reasons I like it so much (aside from the humour, gorgeous art and tons of heart). I really enjoy your ability to thread story and anecdote together in one strip. It seems like there is always the story moving forward behind the foreground of these funny encounters. And its great because it gives as much life to your setting as to Charles, Vivol and Townsend. It just really struck me with this strip. I’m simultaneously being pulled along and entertained… and I like it.
Brilliant work, as usual. I really enjoy how you make the otters’ expressions seem perfectly natural, as if that’s really how they look and react, which we would notice if we just paid closer attention.

I cannot wait for the hard-bound coffee table edition of this book. It is truly one of the best strips … whether online or offline.

“Absolutely cracking!” I love the paws-clasped otter’s expression in the second panel. And their jubilant leaps. :)
Yesssss! Follow the feathers, Charles!!

South-Bend Sliders! Noooooo! The ref was blind…
February 12th, 2009 at 6:01 am
Notice how there’s an otter with him on that trunk. Charles got a new companion.

Hey, it was nice meeting you at NYCC ! My netbook now is now proudly wearing an abominable sticker !
February 12th, 2009 at 12:17 pm
This screams “Time to get back to work!” for both Charles and Karl. :)

But, as I see, not for long…

Please tell me there will be a hard copy version of this comic someday. This deserves shelf space. :D

I just discovered this comic and absolutely love it! I’ve read all the previous comics so I’m all caught up :)
Great job Karl! I look forward to the hard copy of the comic.
February 12th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
Wow, a LOT of ottery goodness in this comic.
Also, no, I’m certain that’s not an otter on the log with Charles.
February 13th, 2009 at 7:30 am
Absolutely adorable. Could the otters possibly be any cuter? I think not.
February 13th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
That doesn’t look like an otter to me either. Just a branch.
Where’d the crisp go?
February 13th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
I discovered your comic through seeing you at the page layout panel at ComicCon and I’m really digging it – beautiful and cool stuff!

Hi Karl!
We met at the NYCC. Great strip this week, as usual.
How did you go about getting your site well known?
February 15th, 2009 at 11:26 am
Yay! Cute otters speaking with 1920’s English. Smashing!

That last panel is just absolutely gorgeous. From a loud, noisy crowd, to the extreme loneliness expanse.
February 15th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
Nice to see otters getting some exposure. For more otter goodness visit:

You won’t regret it (assuming it’s daylight in Vancouver).
February 16th, 2009 at 5:34 am
1920’s English? People still use the words epic, cracking and round (of drinks.).
February 17th, 2009 at 3:04 am
Great comic but you could really use a first and last/current comic button
February 17th, 2009 at 9:40 am
Panels 2 and 3 – worried, hysterical faces. That was me this past Superbowl. LOL!

Oh man I just started reading this comic, I read all the way to present today! I’m excited for today’s new strip! Keep up the good work.

Otters are the cats of the sea. They’re so cute and playful!
