Guest Strip – Ramón Pérez
This week’s guest strip comes to you courtesy of my pal and colleague Ramón Pérez!
Many of you know Ramón from his years of work on ButternutSquash and, more recently, the dreamworld epic Kukuburi. I’m constantly in awe of his ability to produce gorgeous art at an incredible rate and I’m particularly jealous of his lush, carefree brush work.
This strip is beautiful to look at and laugh-out-loud funny. I think Ned might become a recurring character…
For more of Ramón’s work, check out his blog or go to txcomics.com. You can also follow him on twitter. He is single and enjoys hats and Dean Martin.

Funnnny! and definitely beautiful. I think Charles has met the Budda.
July 15th, 2009 at 9:58 am
very very nice.
July 15th, 2009 at 10:00 am
Awwwww, Charles is always so helpful… even if he’s not aware of it…. ^^
July 15th, 2009 at 10:07 am
Mn, I love the jay in panel 2.
July 15th, 2009 at 10:09 am
Hilarious, just sort of reels you in, lol.
July 15th, 2009 at 10:16 am
Wow, nice job on the art, and that was *really* funny, too! Bravo!
July 15th, 2009 at 10:32 am
I LOVE the colour – not too far removed from the CC style but rich and unique. An absolutely gorgeous depiction of why I adore you both so much.
July 15th, 2009 at 11:04 am
This is amazing! I am a big fan of Ramon’s work. Nicely done, fits perfectly with the storyline and Karl’s art as well.
Great work!
July 15th, 2009 at 11:28 am
This page is awesome. Ramon did a fantastic job, and this page is really funny.
July 15th, 2009 at 11:31 am
… hehehe! (what else needs be said)… really lovely, yet again…
July 15th, 2009 at 11:31 am
Great stuff Ramon! You are truly an artist sir, bending your art to your medium.
July 15th, 2009 at 11:46 am
I didn’t know what to expect when I saw the tweets about Ramón Pérez doing a guest strip but, somehow, I’m not surprised at the level of execution. It is very much in keeping with the ACC style, in both art and writing, and yet has it’s own feel. Excellent job!
July 15th, 2009 at 12:41 pm
kyaakyaa kyaa – i love it!
July 15th, 2009 at 1:42 pm
Funny… and nice art, hope someday it’ll be published as a hardcover book.
July 15th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
Great work from Mr. Pérez. Could double for one of Karl’s, I’d say.
Gotta love the sight of the insect struggling in panel 2.
July 15th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
Woot! Love BNS, and Perez’s other works…and love ACC. Best of both worlds!
July 15th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
The way the colour sort of seeps into the lower half of the strip is really magical. I’m very impressed. The Jay is kinda a douche though right? He’s an enabler, and he wanted to eat his own therapist. I don’t think that little finch should be hanging out with him, I’m sure the wife wouldn’t approve.
July 15th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
My favourite is when he yells and insect legs fly out his mouth.
My scalp feels itchy now.
July 15th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
a m a z i n g ! Ramón, waiting for Sept. 9th!
July 15th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
thanks all, nice to see my contribution is well received! karl is a giant talent and it was fun to play in his world
@Robin, was wondering if anybody would catch that!
as well in the last panel there’s a slight homage to kukuburi as well, well actually, two slight homages…
July 15th, 2009 at 3:28 pm
Beautiful and Hilarious.
I think he knows they are there.
July 15th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
All of a sudden, I no longer want to hug Christopher Charles . . .
July 15th, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Wow, I thought this was a Karl-drawn comic until I remembered CC was still running guest strips.
It was odd(in a funny sort of way) seeing a speech bubble pointed at Charles.
Charles might know that they’re there, and might be glad that they’re cleaning him up. I wonder if they’ll find a dead fish in there.
July 15th, 2009 at 6:34 pm
I’ve been wondering how he grooms himself for a while, that’s one question answered in life, now to get to cold fusion.
July 15th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
What a great strip! Thanks Ramon, you’re a bloody legend, mate.
July 15th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
Aaahhhh…. that was great.
July 16th, 2009 at 3:03 am
I am impressed by the ability Ramon shows to match Karl’s style, both in art and in humor. Wonderful crossover.
July 16th, 2009 at 3:35 am
in the last panel they dig the alien bug out that occured in kukuburi! and charles is sitting still like the giants in kukuburi! what a great self-reference.
July 16th, 2009 at 3:37 am
…and at last: ned, the blue bird – also from kukuburi!
July 16th, 2009 at 3:48 am
“hey it’s ned… NED!!!” XD Just Epic how you drew that.. the entire thing is … ^_^ Really dig your comics guys… great work.
July 16th, 2009 at 7:24 am
Found this after a recommendation from meekcomic.com and finished reading all the archives in a few hours. Really love your work! That aside, sad that you’re on break, but I hope it’s great! And I love the guest strip. Stellar work.
July 16th, 2009 at 9:42 am
Ramon can really match your style well! Awesome work my friend!!
July 16th, 2009 at 10:45 am
Being away from home for months now, CC is a little connection every week that makes me feel like I’m visiting a land in between wherever I am and home…. I thought reading the guest strips would make me feel like I was cheating on Charles, but they’re just from a different angle. I believe that’s what you get when you’ve plucked something from the universal consciousness….love this strip!!
July 16th, 2009 at 11:18 am
Damn, I have both of these comics one right after each other on my bookmark page, so I was all “… what just happened …”.
July 16th, 2009 at 11:59 am
Hilarious and great art too!
July 16th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
Ahaha, that was great! “NED!!!” Good job Ramon!
Either Charles is just chilling and taking it easy, or he’s sort of zoning out, thinking about how much he misses Townsen. =(
July 16th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
thanks all!
and @julia p, good eye
July 16th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
“NED!!”
Ah… perfect.
July 16th, 2009 at 8:44 pm
I’m new here, just finished reading through the archives. Absolutely beautiful work on every single strip. And great guest strip Ramon! ^-^
July 17th, 2009 at 12:46 am
Perfect.
July 17th, 2009 at 9:53 am
Yay, the birds! Some of them anyway. I love this, and Ned makes a very good point, I doubt Charles knows they’re there. Beautifully done, I love the color, it adds a nice touch.
July 18th, 2009 at 4:00 am
Ahahah, I have nothing bad I could possibly say against this strip – in fact, I just saved it on my desktop. XD
July 20th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
You know, that could almost be the strip before the very first strip of the webcomic, where Charles Christopher is sitting under a tree in the exact position depicted by Ramon before it starts raining.
Also, I must congratulate you, Karl, on your superb artistry; I was directed here by a comment from a user on a site called The Agony Booth, and I immediately fell in love with your comic over the course of last Saturday afternoon. I even got so emotional as to cry when Townsen died! :-S
Anyhow, thanks for the great times so far; I’ll recommend you to my friends online.

If not Buddha, then St.Francis of Assisi, the guy the birds and deer weren’t afraid of……., it’s brilliant! And so well drawn.
Isn’t there something about fleas having smaller fleas, on down? Something, something, radioactive infinitium?
July 21st, 2009 at 1:05 pm
“So nat’ralists observe, a flea
Hath smaller fleas that on him prey,
And these have smaller fleas that bite ‘em,
And so proceed ad infinitum.” – Jonathan Swift, who couldn’t rhyme to save his (talking) ass.

Funny and cute!
