Guest Strip – Matthew Forsythe
I have known Matthew Forsythe since we were in high school back in Welland, Ontario.
We were in a band together, made short films together, and ate a lot of Taco Bell together. Now he is an accomplished cartoonist and author, works for the National Film Board of Canada, is a regular contributor to ‘Drawn!‘ and knows everyone who is anyone in Montréal.
Last year, his award-winning comic ‘Ojingogo‘ about a girl and her squid was collected into a lovely print edition (published by Drawn & Quarterly) and has since sold out. But you can still read the whole thing for free on his website! You can also peruse his blog, which features an assortment of his incredible illustration work.
This week’s guest strip was co-produced by another friend, Aisling Chin-Yee, who wrote the note-perfect dialogue. Aisling is a filmmaker and new media producer here in Montréal (though I have a personal soft spot for her East Coast roots). Check out more of her work here!
Thanks, guys! I love you both.

Abominable Charles Christopher, Karl, Matt & Aisling ROCK!

HA! Hilarious.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:58 am
Hehe… This is great. I am reminded of the eagle from the muppets.

Oh good, I’m not the only one thinking “…with special guest star, Sam the Eagle!”
Love the “eyes going separate ways” in panels 2 and 6. Makes it look like the poor bird’s trying to do the math in his head and keeps coming up with an error screen.

I think the mouse makes sense ^^
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:56 pm
If that mouse thinks flattery ain’t getting him eaten, he’s in for a shock…
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:23 pm
Ha ha! Great comic. The eagle’s eyes and the mouse’s dialog are fantastic. I laughed myself silly. Well done.

Dickybird.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:49 am
Ok, now all of you go back and reread that, but use the Geico lizards voice for the mouse. I KNOW, it’s like twice as funny and it was a riot the first time!
Great art too, I think it’s good that Sam’s cousin is finally getting some work!

@sco3tt–YES! Ahahaha, I love it. “Flattered, really.” XD
So reminded me of Sam the Eagle. Those eyes are hilarious!
Good job!

P.S. Interesting bit of trivia: I once bought a film for a school project from the National Film Board of Canada called ‘Tokyo Girls’ (about Canadian girls who took jobs as hostesses in Tokyo clubs).
On-topic: I’m still laughing at the eagle’s eyes. XD
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:14 pm
Aha, now that I’ve read it in the Geico lizard’s voice, I can’t get rid of it!
July 23rd, 2009 at 3:12 pm
I never let my prey talk to me, it totally creeps me out and I can’t eat a bite.
July 24th, 2009 at 9:11 am
Great, now every 6 minutes when they show a Geico lizard ad I start giggling insanely.
Normally I just giggle insanely every 15 minutes, it’s really throwing me off my game.

I read this story and immediately thought of Vivol and Moon Bear:

This is also my first comment!
I don’t really read web comics, but I am hooked on Charles Christopher.
Looking forward to the book. It will make a fantastic gift.

Besides the fact that some are only there to fill the politically correct quotas but seem totally incapable of fulfilling their duties. ,
