This concludes the personal ads, at least for a while. I’ve been trying to keep the strips simple as I focus on production of the print collection (which is going smoothly so far!) and tie up some existing work-for-hire projects I have on the go.
Remember: the Wednesday Comics Contest is still underway! It’ll wrap up once all twelve issue have hit the stands (five weeks to go!) and the winner will receive an original sketch from me.
Probably of an animal.

Vivol looks both happy and lonely at the same time, like you want to leave him alone and hug him. (that may just be because he is a bear.)

I have to agree with John K – he looks peaceful but also like he might need a friend. Don’t know that the bunny has thought this through .. but it sure is adorable. I love the “probably” has a sense of humour (:

oh boy. this is the best of the personals. such a nice bridge to the main story line and characters in ACC. i particularly like the deets in vivol’s description. very funny.

I agree with I-hate-socks. Nice prep for the story next week. But after so many fun classifieds I don’t know if I’m ready for a sad tale about Vivol.

Not that I’m aware of, Vashra. I watched Watership Down when I was a kid and loved it, but if there are any stylistic similarities they’re purely subconscious.

Aw, I’d totally be Vivol’s sweetie. But I think he’s a one-bear guy–I think he’d see going out with anyone else a betrayal of Moon Bear’s memory.

Yes, after I noticed it I went through the archives. In the flashbacks, he has no notch. Hmmm, must have acquired it during a daring circus escape? How did Vivol get out of the circus I wonder…

A wonderful conclusion! Hmmm… tempted to go back and read the whole thing again to get ready for next week’s new strip…
Side-note: I think someone mentioned pop-up books in the comments last week? Had a thought… an ACC lift-the-flap book would be great! Probably easier and cheaper to make than a pop-up, plus still lots of fun, ’cause you get to lift the flap each time and see what’s underneath! Like those Spot lift-the-flap books.

This makes me a little weepy for some reason. I think it’s because of Vivol’s backstory. But I know it’s also because of Karl’s sensitive and tender handling of character and perfect touches of humor on top of incredible art.

I believe the mama bear, Masha, was Vivol’s mother. The next scene was of Vivol himself, now older, performing and him seeing a young Moon Bear whom he comes to love.
