You could eventually have a book just of the Cedar Forest Players. I made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

Just scrolling down to say how much I've loved the series (heard about it via the Science...Sort Of guys, just so you know) and read 'ChesterCopperpot's' comment, and I think he's got it dead on. Wihle the story of Charles is definitely great on its own, its also part of a more dense storyline, with lots of characters all woven in. I picture a strip like this, which made me laugh out loud, by the way, like poking your head into a random door in a random house in a city in the Lord of the Rings, and just listening to the conversation. The good people of Minas Tirith would all have their own issues/stories going on, really only tangentially related to the main plot...but their conversations might be just as entertaining....or more so! Great work, Karl. Thanks!!

For me, I feel the little "asides" ARE the main story. It's about a forest that's in danger of something (we've yet to really find out). But would we really care unless we knew some of the little characters that live in the forest? Charles is on a mission to save them. But if we got to the "end," and they were saved, wouldn't we ask "Who cares?" unless we actually got to know those that were saved? I'm excited to have the greatness of the forest kept alive: the little plays, the drama between a drunk bird and his mate, the games at the river, and learning to fly with Jeffery (that little punk!), and so on.
Karl: Keep it up, man. I (among dozens of others) appreciate the woodland creatures. I'm thrilled we're getting a new scene and new characters, too. All part of the plot. I'm a fan for years to come (decades if it takes that long).

Hi Guys.
Thanks for the votes of confidence and support! I'm currently on a train back to Montreal and I'm colouring today's strip, which will be posted in a few hours. Hopefully sooner.
Anyway, I just wanted to address the issue of plot progression. I appreciate the opinions of those who are anxious for more 'story', and my response to you is that the surrounding digressions are just as much a part of the story as the quest-based plot. I like to flip-flop between them as the mood strikes me, and having just wrapped up a pretty heavy scene as a conclusion to the Townsen storyline, I felt that I needed a bit of a breather in between chapters.
I know it seems like a long time because of the weekly update schedule, but trust me when I say that if I were to be swayed by your plot cravings, the final story, read through from beginning to end, would feel rushed and awkward.
This comic has always been (and always will be) about the little moments. If you're here solely to find out what happens at the end, then you're in for a few years of frustration. ;)
