Rumble Royale
I actually used this gag repeatedly in Teen Titans: Year One, but I always find it funny. In fact, the tag line of this whole series could be: ‘Animals Frightened by Loud Noises’.
Perhaps that’ll be the title of my memoirs…

omg first comment! YEs allways funny!
September 16th, 2009 at 11:00 am
Second comment! Haha SO funny… and cute. Absolutely gorgeous watercolor backgrounds in this one, the trees, the sky and the water. I keep asking myself, could this strip get any better? And inevitably, each week, it does.
September 16th, 2009 at 11:15 am
It seems like this kind of thing always happens to me just when everyone in the room stops talking.
September 16th, 2009 at 11:16 am
Really clever, and so well-executed! I am really enjoying the lighthearted nature of this one! Thanks for making Wednesdays special :)
September 16th, 2009 at 11:23 am
As always, your comics are wonderful!
September 16th, 2009 at 11:34 am
Poor Charles, how long *has* it been since he ate last? :)
September 16th, 2009 at 11:53 am
Yay! A squirrel! My favourite!
September 16th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
lol Charles never ceases to amaze me. And neither do you, Karl! I love it, as always. ^^ I felt like that earlier, before I had lunch…
September 16th, 2009 at 12:10 pm
That Charles – so confused by his own stomach! Hah!
September 16th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
I sincerely doubt an acorn is going to help that growl any.
September 16th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
that is one big belly grumble…what does Charles eat? Is he an herbivore? An omnivore? We shall have to wait and see…
September 16th, 2009 at 12:19 pm
Awesome comic. I love that the squirrel offers him an acorn to satiate his hunger…
September 16th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
I like how at first Charles is just as shocked as all the other animals, haha.
September 16th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
This reminds me of an experience I had as an undergraduate: I went to see Jane Goodall, the famous primatologist, give a lecture, and I hadn’t eaten anything all day. At one point in the talk, Dr. Goodall demonstrateda chimpanzee call; my stomach loudly responded. It was loud enough that people near me in the lecture hall started to laugh; it FELT loud enough for the whole lecture hall to hear!
September 16th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
Ha Ha… :-)
September 16th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
Shouldn’t have passed on that crisp. :P
September 16th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
i hope you will draw a wolf character in this forest too. P.s I love the bulging (spelling?) eyes on the squirrell haha
September 16th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
Charles could never eat the existential crisp! And how kind of the squirrell to offer his acorn to poor poor hungry Charles. Priceless.
September 16th, 2009 at 3:37 pm
LOL that is adorable. Poor CC, he needs something to eat! (hope he doesn’t ignore the acorn and eat the squirrel D= )
September 16th, 2009 at 5:00 pm
eesh, id be scared to! …cute though
September 16th, 2009 at 5:19 pm
i like the build up and vibrato of the grumble, with an extra one in panel 7. and the squirrel reminds me of the one in ice age. hee hee
September 16th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
That last panel got an audible “TEE!” from me. I’m kinda glad nobody else is home…
September 16th, 2009 at 5:44 pm
Panel 7 is adorable!
September 16th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
My stomach did that in the middle of a play once while I was seated in the first row. Both actors stopped for a second and looked at me. I feel for Charles, I do.
September 16th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
The technical term is “borborygmus”. CC had one on July 11th, 2007 but it wasn’t nearly as spectacular as this one.
Hmmm. His tummy seems bigger in this strip.
September 16th, 2009 at 8:15 pm
Aww.. CC would never eat a squirrel! I think he’s a herbivore.. but he’s certainly a protector of the small and cute :)
Awesome comic this week.. made me go ‘awww’
September 16th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
Every little bit helps.
September 16th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
LMAO i adoooooooore the look on the squirrel’s face.
lol
and the generosity is sweet. why is everyone always offering charles food? maybe he should start carrying a lunchbox.
September 17th, 2009 at 5:24 am
I don’t know why but I’m laughing at the sound effects you gave to the digging squirrel.
“… DIG DIG DIG …”
(I guess it would be different if the squirrel was burying ;)
September 17th, 2009 at 5:31 am
EAT THE SQUIRREL! Hehe.
September 17th, 2009 at 8:56 am
Squirrels used to freak me out, they’re so damn bold and arrogant.
September 17th, 2009 at 9:46 am
At least it stopped before the avalanche! Or did it . . . dun dun DUN!
Yeah, it probably did.
September 17th, 2009 at 10:20 am
Aww, poor Charles Christopher! At least there’s a friendly, neighborhood squirrel – which I love, by the way. He’s just so darn cute!
September 17th, 2009 at 12:31 pm
good Ice Age reference with the squirrel.
September 17th, 2009 at 2:28 pm
Aww, that is adorable. Such a huge grumble and the squirrel with his little acorn offering. This made me smile big today.
September 17th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
That last panel is great. The squirrel’s face clearly says ‘You need this way more than I do, mate’.
September 18th, 2009 at 7:45 am
eat the squirrel! Eat it! (O,o)
September 18th, 2009 at 10:00 am
sounds like he is one hungry dude!
September 18th, 2009 at 11:03 am
Haha, I love Charles in panel six. “No no no, stoppp!”
I’m kind of hungry now. (Time to visit Sissi Skunk…)
September 18th, 2009 at 4:59 pm
Ha ha, those would be some amazing memoirs to read. Great job as always, Karl!
September 19th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Hilarious ^_^ Love the squirrel offering him the nut :D
September 20th, 2009 at 10:51 am
Arkady62 asked “what does CHarles eat?” By his teeth, I would have to say fish. Unless he has some amazing jaw power, then maybe turtles?
September 21st, 2009 at 6:42 am
Charles eats honey.
September 21st, 2009 at 6:46 am
Great as always :)
September 21st, 2009 at 9:44 am
I think it might be difficult for Charles to be a carnivore in a place where everything made of meat has an opinion ;)
September 21st, 2009 at 4:55 pm
Oh, my, I laughed so hard at the last panel!!
September 22nd, 2009 at 6:53 am
@Callyn – you get used to it.
@Niroot – mmm, you look tasty.
September 23rd, 2009 at 4:52 pm
Argent,
Alas, you may have cause to change your mind if you saw the real me… XD
September 24th, 2009 at 11:34 am
oh WOW. i was worried something awful was going to happen, but this was such an anticlimax, i laughed out loud.
October 12th, 2009 at 8:41 am
Charles gotta roomblie liek inna toomy roffle!
Practicing lolspeak. But I like it that he looks so shocked at his own stomach growling.
December 29th, 2009 at 4:28 am
That was the first laugh for me today, many thanks! :D
