Wonder why they have to stay close to their buddy? Canadian geese are too large for any airborne predators to tackle. Their only known avian predators are the great owls (Great Horned, Great Gray and Snowy), and then only at night when the geese are sleeping or on the ground.`

@e=mc-horse: they can use aerodynamics when they’re close ;) Oh, i love ths comic; Karl, you’re awesome :)

I love Canada geese.
Yes, they shit on everything. But still, they’re so lovable.
November 18th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
Aw, so sad.

Love this comic! Brilliant and always good fun (when you aren’t making me cry). Will try and pop by your desk at Thought Bubble on Saturday Karl.

canadian geese are lovable – except for when they are chasing you across the common at york university. oh the memories. everyone has an angry goose chase story.
November 18th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
Karl, your depiction of Canada geese reminds me of how wonderful and beautiful these birds are! You should check out the Australlia equivalent – Magpie Geese. Equally as beautiful.

See you at the con, hopefully. :)

I love the way you created the clouds in panel 3… it is beautiful!
November 20th, 2009 at 12:54 am
I feel the same way. Just the right mix of poignancy and humor, well done.
November 21st, 2009 at 2:17 am
Yes, they are beautiful, but they are also quite tasty when properly prepared. You have to start cooking them upside down in a wine-based broth with veggies then turn them over at the end, because being flying wild birds they are not soft and mushy like pen-raised poultry and require braising for the most flavor and tenderness. Also, allow the bird to rest for about 15 minutes before carving or else it will be dry. Or else, top them with salt pork over the beast and drumsticks and cover that with wet cheesecloth, then remove the cloth and salt pork and finish crisping in a hot oven. I saw that last one on a cooking show about turkey, tried it on a Canadian honker I had taken and it works as well on goose.
