Colonialism
This could have been such a peaceful settlement. But throw one power-mad explorer into the mix and look what happens…

“here comes the new boss, same as the old boss”
Love the second panel as well!!
January 6th, 2010 at 10:40 am
Nice, I love the immediate call of Tyrant and Despot! Just hope CC does not burp or they are all in trouble!
January 6th, 2010 at 10:40 am
My one chance of making it in the first 5 comments!
Loving the ducklings, btw. ;)
January 6th, 2010 at 10:41 am
wow, this is just awesome!
January 6th, 2010 at 10:45 am
You still got it in 2010, Karl!
Another well drawn and dialogued comic.
January 6th, 2010 at 10:47 am
Happy New Year! Always a pleasure to see a new Abominable comic strip, and many more years!
January 6th, 2010 at 10:49 am
Oh noes! Many mutinous whelps! Left side! Handle it! =)
January 6th, 2010 at 10:53 am
Oh man … I LOVE this one. I’m totally going to have said “Silence mutinous whelp!” to someone by the end of the day.
January 6th, 2010 at 11:26 am
So cute! Mutinously cute in fact.
January 6th, 2010 at 11:44 am
rofl, kids huh?
January 6th, 2010 at 11:49 am
Somehow I think the Despots are outnumbered by the Mutinous Whelps… I hope Charles doesn’t get waddled to death by the ensuing battle!
January 6th, 2010 at 11:49 am
Townsen who? (loving this)
January 6th, 2010 at 12:25 pm
hee hee :)
January 6th, 2010 at 12:29 pm
Panel 3, when my girls are playacting, they get so into it, I’ve seen that look of sheer delight on their faces so many times!
January 6th, 2010 at 12:44 pm
I LOVE this comic! Honestly, how do you crack ‘em out each week?
‘despot’! heehee
January 6th, 2010 at 12:58 pm
*laughs, feeling all warm and cuddly* I could lick the ducklings with a giggle and claim Charles Christopher as my own. Karl, with every strip I say to myself, it can’t get better than this! Then what do you do? You turn around and make me a liar.
January 6th, 2010 at 1:35 pm
Snert Snort – ROF-LMAO – ( sorry just had to use caps to show the volume ) Another hit out of the park – many thanks .
January 6th, 2010 at 2:54 pm
Mutinious whelps…that would be an awesome band.
~*KA*~
January 6th, 2010 at 3:01 pm
Ohhh! Proud duckling has made me melt. I wonder what will happen when Charles stands up..
January 6th, 2010 at 3:13 pm
insanely good. as usual.
January 6th, 2010 at 4:42 pm
Poor Charles, conquered by ducklings! I love his eyes in the second panel.
January 6th, 2010 at 5:28 pm
Ohh man “Silence, Mutenous Whelp!” NEEDS to be on a T-Shirt with a duckling on it. God know I’d buy one.
January 6th, 2010 at 5:29 pm
Hope Charles’ stomach behaves now.
January 6th, 2010 at 6:22 pm
VIVA LA REVOLUCION!
January 6th, 2010 at 6:33 pm
I hope there will be many more strips featuring these ducklings…love them! :-)
January 6th, 2010 at 7:32 pm
I second Darkcrystal;
“Silence, Mutenous Whelp!” NEEDS to be on a T-Shirt with a duckling on it. God knows I’d buy one.”
So would I, Mens XXXL Please.
Thnx
January 6th, 2010 at 8:07 pm
….or a mug. This would fit on a mug just fine…. : >
I think Charles is thinking: “who are they and what are they doing to my head?”
January 6th, 2010 at 9:38 pm
This strip is adorable and awesome and all that other good stuff.
January 6th, 2010 at 9:41 pm
“Oskarsland” sounds Swedish. Kommer de ifrån Sverige?
January 6th, 2010 at 9:45 pm
ROFL! I third Darkcrystal motion, a ducky saying Silence, Mutinous Whelp!” Is funny every day. Great comic!
January 6th, 2010 at 10:15 pm
Such a coffee mug would be a great gift for a supervisor, or a mother. My mom would have loved it (and deserved it, we were three very boisterous youngsters). And Charles, with his faylike innocence, just floats along (or stands on the bottom of the pond) and takes it all in as if he were watching a Shakespearean troupe perform around (and on) him.
January 6th, 2010 at 10:48 pm
This is wonderful.
January 7th, 2010 at 3:18 am
I’m imagining this with all the ducklings having little kids’ voices, and it is AWESOME.
January 7th, 2010 at 4:15 am
Quack! Quack quack! Quack quack quack quack! Quack!
January 7th, 2010 at 4:54 am
Great work indeed. Keep it up.
And: love the ducklings. Make sure we see some of them in the future too!
January 7th, 2010 at 6:41 am
I want the quacky version! Would also like a “silence mutinous whelp” ducky T-shirt, though, so yeah…
January 7th, 2010 at 9:13 am
S(ilence) M(utinous) W(help) Mug would match my Charles on Parade “T”.
Excellent strip this week Karl.
Last week I felt like how Charles looks when my hyper-energetic 3yr old nephew was over for the holidays and lording over everyone.
January 7th, 2010 at 10:55 am
the third panel makes me want a pet duckling- it is far too cute
January 7th, 2010 at 12:10 pm
LOL mutinous whelp! I love this one. Hey – any news on the book? :)
January 7th, 2010 at 1:49 pm
It always turns out this way.
January 7th, 2010 at 1:58 pm
Lord of the flies….So awesome, by the way!
January 7th, 2010 at 3:09 pm
I’m giving some thought to a duckling mug (and some other things), but come on, guys! The money line is ‘New Ducklington’!
-karl
January 7th, 2010 at 3:27 pm
Karl…where’s Old Ducklington?
January 7th, 2010 at 5:42 pm
haha Are they claiming Charles?
January 7th, 2010 at 9:52 pm
QUACK QUACK QUACK!!!!
This is awesome.
And I could help it :) :
QUACK VERSION QUACK!

I love the look of utter confusion in Charles’ eyes.
January 8th, 2010 at 4:22 pm
Lovin this comic, really makes each week.
January 8th, 2010 at 6:56 pm
@Karl: that whole last panel is the best. I’ll have to go back and find the best lines in the comic thus far but for now this one wins.
@Twilite: You sir win the internets.
January 9th, 2010 at 7:26 am
This is hilarious! Love the timing of the simple, yet meaningful dialog.
January 9th, 2010 at 3:57 pm
Just read through the whole archive (TOWNSEN!!!!) and love it. Fantastic work.
I had to comment on this one because I grew up in a place called Ducklington and I got a good belly laugh out of seeing it here. Thanks!
January 9th, 2010 at 5:19 pm
I have to disagree with you, Karl. The money line is definitely “mutinous whelp”, closely followed by “tyrant” and “despot” (though it is the context that makes them funny).
January 9th, 2010 at 6:31 pm
I agree, “Silence, Mutinous Whelp” in the mouth (beak?) of a cute little duckling.
January 10th, 2010 at 4:22 pm
I think the whole comic is the money line. However, I think my favorite word bubble was definitely “Despot!”
January 12th, 2010 at 1:56 pm
I hate to see a good duckling go bad.
January 13th, 2010 at 5:06 pm
LOL! “Traitor!! Despot!!”
January 15th, 2010 at 5:17 pm
I love this strip =) It reminds me a lot of Pogo by Walt Kelly.
January 16th, 2010 at 6:22 pm
…but he’s such a cute widdle despot!
January 18th, 2010 at 2:56 pm
this is so great! i love the expression on CC’s face. and i love the last panel. i have to use that line on somebody soon!
January 18th, 2010 at 5:02 pm
yessss ;) . priceless
January 20th, 2010 at 12:43 pm
Every time i check the strip i am honestly amazed by what Karl can do with a simple drawing.I’ve read a lot of comics and never have i seen such expression.I mean looking at the beak of the new tyrant in the last panel, just to simple curved lines but i can tell exactly how the little duckling is yelling,i can just picture the scene perfectly. This is past art,Karl is working with psychology here.Oh god he knows what im thinking!
January 29th, 2010 at 2:37 am
*looks over the comic strip for like the 10th time*
Dawww….. ^_^
February 17th, 2010 at 9:33 am
