An Oversight
This strip is up a bit later than usual because I’ve been spending all day dealing with the printer of the NEW ABOMINABLE CHARLES CHRISTOPHER BOOK.
Needless to say, I’m very excited. See details below…

Congrats on the book! This strip brought a tear to my eye…

Huzzah! a Charles Christopher book is amazing news!
April 14th, 2010 at 9:57 pm
Amazing… no more to say.
April 14th, 2010 at 10:02 pm
I’m not sure why, but something about the bird’s shadow flying over Charles Christopher made me choke up a little!
Beautiful work, as always – and congrats on the book!

Interesting…the relationship between these demigods of nature…

(First time posting)
Somehow I think that the conversation between the ‘gods’ makes them seem less terrifying, and more real
April 14th, 2010 at 10:51 pm
Aha!!! All of the storyline delays (all of which were wonderful, by the way) wrapped up as “planned ‘em all along” in the first panel. Absolutely brilliant.
And thank you at last for the book! May 12th cannot come fast enough!!!

This new knowledge makes me uneasy. Yeah ‘they’ are watching over him but I don’t think they have Charles best interests in mind. Of all the god-like entities around here Moonbear is the only one I’m okay with and we haven’t heard from her in a long time. Lion and brother hawk I think have very different reasons for wanting to save the forest than Charles does.

oh my gosh i just noticed the bird in the final panel. creepy.
this strip SOOOOO good.
April 15th, 2010 at 12:31 am
I don’t know what was more scary. Watching Charles fall like that and get swept away or that bird shadow (albeit breathtaking).

The book looks wonderful! I hope you sell out!

When gods use mortal creatures for their ends, they seldom worry about how the mortal creatures end up. So long as they complete their use, they are then expended tools.

@Dressline: I don’t agree with you about Moon Bear. She brought Charles to the Lion in the frist place, didn’t she? I think somehow she has the revenge in mind, which Vivol seemed to have abandoned while living in the forest. Perhaps she got killed in the circus and is a ghost seeking revenge and therefore working for the Lion?

The look on Charles face is still so full of determination …
April 15th, 2010 at 9:02 am
ha! i agree with the first panel, his pace is rather slow. love him tho!
April 15th, 2010 at 9:53 am
I also wanted to add, after looking over the strip once again, that you truly are a masterful artist, Mr. Kerschl. I’m sure you get that a lot, but I am always impressed and delighted at your work!
April 15th, 2010 at 9:55 am
Ooooh, I love this strip! I especially love the look on Charles’s face in the fourth panel. It’s so…. gr… Also the lion and the raven worry me… but they always have.
April 15th, 2010 at 12:20 pm
I love Charles falling in the waterfall (not that it makes me happy, I just love everything that panel conveys about his journey). I didn’t notice the silhouette of the hawk above him until the second time I read through this. The depth of emotion (often without words) and the subtleties of this comic are impeccable.

So wait, this is a discussion between MoonBear and the Hawk spirits?
April 15th, 2010 at 4:09 pm
Congrats on the book. I look forward to seeing it.

A book? That’s awesome news! I wants… waaaaants!
April 16th, 2010 at 2:11 am
I don’t know if this is boorish of me, but is there a way to buy the book without doing an on-line transaction? I may eb the last person left in the world who is all cash, but I’d love to have a copy…

Lord, use me.
Lord, use me but don’t break me.
Lord, I don’t care if you break me.

Hahahahahaha! Ahhhhh it is great. They are talking about the author regarding the plot! Oh, it is perfect!
Ahem.
Nice art.
April 17th, 2010 at 10:41 am
WOAHHHH, you did a great job with the shadow! This strip looks awesome. <3
April 17th, 2010 at 4:21 pm
Perhaps I’m completely insensitive, but on nearly every single page of this comic I see one or two (or more) people claiming to ‘get a tear in their eye.’
Why? This particular comic is very well-drawn, well-scripted, and well-thought-out, but not every page is chock full of emotion. Some pages are just mysterious, or amusing, or simply there to set the stage. I admit there are tear-jerkers, and just the right amount, which is why I can’t understand how people can get emotional over every. Single. Page.
So, if someone could explain…perhaps I’m just missing the nuances here.

That’s an awesome last panel! It took a moment for my eyes to focus. hehe Congrats on the book!

Just found this comic and read, and oh my, it’s good! Though Townsen’s is the first time in a while I’ve teared up over a webcomic
looking forward to seeing more

I don’t know, I seem to think the Raven is a bit more on Charles’ side than most people think. He says that nothing will change with Charles’ intervention, but then, why watch over him?
April 20th, 2010 at 8:51 am
@ Katie
I have recently wondered over the same thing and have arrived a 2 of the more probable answers:
1- Different people are moved by different scenarios. What might not mean anything to me might mean the world to another person. The same person hasn’t posted that they shed a tear in each strip.
or
2- They are using ‘get a tear in their eye’ as a euphemism, not to be taken literally.
At any rate, I’ve only recently started reading this strip and got hooked. I’m enjoying this epic trip!

Gah! How did I miss this page?
I didn’t see the raven shadow until someone pointed it out…then I gasped aloud. Wow.
Well, it’s nice to know that SOMEONE is watching Charles. Whether for good or ill (I’d like to think it’s good–just the journey may be rather difficult, and the demigods are pragmatists) remains to be seen.

if the eagle is guarding ACC then why did he take townsen?
September 10th, 2010 at 12:13 pm
Townsen’s life was already taken by the hunter. The hawk took Townsen’s death.
