I would love to see more of these guys and their story! Something tells me Sissi and the chief’ve cute a deal somewhere along the line…
The last two panels really cut to the bone. I can really hear them jeering, and I wanna give Luga a hug so bad. It’s quite a testament to your story telling powers.
I love how the chief’s dark hair makes him look like one of those hard-ass boss types. Still loving your style to bring out subtle details in everything, especially animals, since we humans aren’t very particularly keen on picking up non-verbal stuff from other animals.
Beautiful work as always, Karl – wolves occupy a very soft, squishy place in my heart. Thanks for portraying them as a force for good rather than evil, as opposed to nearly every other comic/cartoon out there.
What about “Kevin and Kell”? ( http://www.kevinandkell.com/ ) Most of the wolves are depicted as predators (except for out-as-herbivore Bruno), but that’s because they’re fulfilling their societal niche/roles. The only wolf who gets depicted as a “villain”-type is R.L., but that’s more in line with his position as the CEO of a mega-conglomerate than any actual villainy.
Yes, there is definitely something going on. Look again at the chief in panel 4 – he has black and white stripes on his head (although in a left-to-right direction). I think he has more than just “business” connections to the skunks…
Karl, I have to give you top marks for idea, story, art – practically everything. ACC is a highlight of my week!
Ah, the archetypal Good Cop. I was wondering when we’d get someone like that. What chilled me was the realization that Luga wasn’t in charge of the wolves, that his confrontation with Sissi over CC had no backing. I foresee ickiness in the future, and interesting potential entanglements with other characters.
Although I do wonder what he’s on about. Maybe this has been going on for a while, and Luga has decided that Sissi has harassed her customers for the last time?
Maybe it’s a generational thing but I was thinking that we need Jerry Orbach on the case with Michael Moriarty to follow through. Oh, and Charles going undercover.
Also, you gotta wonder if the Chief’s wife pays when she shops at Sissy’s or if it’s like Chinese joints where the cops never pay. The chief is being way too vocal for my tastes.
I suspect Luga’s more contemplative than sad in the last panel but that posture/triangular ears has my Townson craving up.
I don’t know why, but when I read it… Well, chief’s voice just came to me as that of Sir Thomas Sean Connery. “My wife shops there, for God’s sake”. Now I know it wasn’t intentional, it was to fit the mood of the strip, but seeing as in TACC there are several gods, why didn’t Karl conjure one of them up instead? Just a though. Great art as usuall. Oh, btw… You have fans in Brasil. They all say a hearty hello =)
Mmm two things that set my teeth on edge: corruption in “official” positions (ok I don’t like corruption anywhere really) and honest folk being shouted down.
My mind is still wrestling with the title of the piece, given some of the other references one might consider for “alpha and omega.”
Welcome to corporate crony capitalism and its pervasive cancerous spread into government. We have the best politicians money can buy, and soon it starts to affect the laws made and the enforcement of said laws on different levels, depending on the ability to pay or influence.

It’s Serpico…. but with wolves.
May 19th, 2010 at 5:22 pm
Rob: totally, you took the words right outta my mouth.
May 19th, 2010 at 5:25 pm
Funny, there’s only wolves in the panels, and skunks are only mentioned, yet fish make a prominent mark on the comic in an olfactory sense…
May 19th, 2010 at 5:26 pm
This story could be a whole comic in itself and I’d be hooked.
May 19th, 2010 at 5:29 pm
It’s hilarious, yet the last panel is heart breaking.
May 19th, 2010 at 5:31 pm
can i just say that i made a little squeal of happiness when i saw that you had drawn wolves?!
this is lovley, that poor wolf
May 19th, 2010 at 5:33 pm
I have such concern for the little guy they took in for questioning (presumably). Something smells, indeed. Let’s just hope Luga gets there in time.

May 19th, 2010 at 5:39 pm
Hmm, I wonder what kind of bribes a skunk would have to provide for a wolf to stay out of her business..
May 19th, 2010 at 5:42 pm
GBeans: “My wife shops there…” and somehow the prices are SO affordable even on a policeman’s budget!
May 19th, 2010 at 6:12 pm
And just like in real life – the beat goes on .
May 19th, 2010 at 6:15 pm
=( Poor Luga.
May 19th, 2010 at 6:21 pm
The last panel would make a beautiful, if very sad, print.
May 19th, 2010 at 6:59 pm
aw…poor luga!
May 19th, 2010 at 7:18 pm
That kind of disrespect makes me soooo angry. You’re always so good at bringing out the ‘human’ foibles (and beautiful aspects too).
May 19th, 2010 at 8:10 pm

Wolves being portrayed in a positive role? I officially love Karl.
May 19th, 2010 at 8:40 pm
Those wolves in the second-last-panel are not acting very… regal… they’re acting like third-graders.
May 19th, 2010 at 8:40 pm
I’m disappointed to learn that Luga is not the leader, though.
May 19th, 2010 at 8:50 pm
Will Luga arrive in time to save Anson? Will Anson rat on the skunk mob? Will the rats sue me for defamation?
May 19th, 2010 at 9:05 pm
Dammit Luga, THIS IS NOT YOUR PERSONAL WAR!
May 19th, 2010 at 10:22 pm
All of a sudden, I don’t trust that skunk on the “Go Shopping” banner…
May 19th, 2010 at 10:44 pm
Yay, Luga’s back!

Karl, your artwork and storytelling is amazing. I can’t wait to see how all these threads tie up.
May 20th, 2010 at 5:23 am
I’m fascinated how your stories can make me giggle, sob and twinkle within just a few panels.
May 20th, 2010 at 5:30 am
See, now you made me get a Gravatar.
May 20th, 2010 at 7:53 am
can someone link me to all the comics in this storyline? (please) In my old age my brain is scattering all these things,,,
May 20th, 2010 at 10:11 am
Interesting…
Maybe a new webcomic: “Law and Order: Cedar Forest.”
*dum dum….*
May 20th, 2010 at 10:34 am
beautiful Karl – panels 3 and 4, just beautiful, and snappy dialogue too!

Go get ‘em, Big Guy.
May 20th, 2010 at 12:48 pm
Kinda wierd how Sissi Skunk went from a kinda lovable huckster to a sinister mafioso.
May 20th, 2010 at 1:33 pm
Yay, glad to see Luga again!
Although I do wonder what he’s on about. Maybe this has been going on for a while, and Luga has decided that Sissi has harassed her customers for the last time?
Time will tell…
May 20th, 2010 at 1:54 pm
Awww poor Luga… I BELIEVE YOU!

Oh Karl, you can make me laugh and then sigh with sadness in the matter of minutes. Poor Luga.
May 20th, 2010 at 5:54 pm
What is Charles Christopher doing playing keyboards?

I think the Chief is scared of his wife.
“My wife shops there, for God’s sake!” = “It keeps her happy! Don’t ruin it!”
May 20th, 2010 at 10:57 pm

Humm… Now that I read it again… Luga’s voice could be Harrison Ford’s. Sorry, too sweet to let it pass =P
May 21st, 2010 at 12:12 am
Hmmm… Yes, I think Luga is onto something here. But Sissi Skunk got to the chief first.
Cedar Forest is becoming more and more like LA!
May 21st, 2010 at 10:23 am
I wonder if Sissy Skunk has broken into the crisp market, or are the otters still catching their own.
May 23rd, 2010 at 9:22 am
And now I’m fully caught up, spent the last few days readin the whole back archive and I cant wait to see where these stories go
-M

The “scent of old age”… sigh. Aw Luga…

NOOOOO, they are so mean to Luga! XD Luga is adorably handsome. <3 I am now a fan. ;;
June 14th, 2010 at 4:07 pm
So, how long before Luga has to turn in his badge?
February 4th, 2011 at 5:54 pm
Poor Luga

Hurts to be an honest cop under those situations.
