The Way To A Man’s Heart…
I was going to do a strip featuring Charles, but this one just popped out unexpectedly and I thought it was funny. That’s the way it happens sometimes. Back to our hero next week!
BOOK NEWS: The books are shipping! The first batch went out last week, and more are going out all the time. If you ordered the regular edition, you’ll likely have it in your hands very soon. The sketch editions are running later because there are a LOT of them, and I’m trying to give each one the love it deserves. So, apologies for the delay on those.
And for those of you who are asking, the books are still available to purchase, either unsigned, or signed and sketched. The Pre-Orders (which included bonus prints) ended, but the books are very much still available!

God I love that poppa bird’s pop-eyed expressions! I think he’s my favourite woodland critter, after CC, of course.
May 26th, 2010 at 1:31 pm
I think I should get married too.
May 26th, 2010 at 2:05 pm
Hillarious!
May 26th, 2010 at 2:43 pm

Gotta love this “lull before the storm” .
May 26th, 2010 at 3:23 pm
I got engaged two months ago but I love to cook, so I do 90% of the cooking…I also do the laundry…folding…dishes…trash…grocery shopping…it’s OK, she’s busy trying to get into med school, it’s all about the compromises :)
May 26th, 2010 at 3:56 pm
Maybe he likes cooking for other birds…
Wait a second, what do birds have to cook anyway?
May 26th, 2010 at 5:11 pm
Great comic, i’ve just put myself to the day in my readings of this and i think is magnificent, truly great
May 26th, 2010 at 5:27 pm
good title! i love that this is poppa bird giving the loving truth, especially after what we’ve seen from him so far!
May 26th, 2010 at 7:09 pm
Does this mean something is on your mind Karl!? I love their expressions!
May 26th, 2010 at 7:11 pm
@Chrys – My parents asked me the same thing. ;)
May 26th, 2010 at 7:35 pm
I might print this one out and put it on our refrig. =) Although I am a decent cook, I don’t think that’s the reason my DH married me. =)
I pity the poor lady bird who marries that jay (cardinal?). Although who knows, he might find someone who is just dying to take care of him. ^_^
May 26th, 2010 at 7:49 pm
He’s a jay – all that smart, sharp striping . I love those birds.
May 26th, 2010 at 8:56 pm
Karl? Does this strip have anything to do with our conversation when you came back to Niagara the other week?
May 26th, 2010 at 10:58 pm
Oh, wow. Someone linked me to this comic today, and I just sat here and read the whole thing so far. I love it so much, you’re amazing. Now I’m gonna be hooked. D:
May 27th, 2010 at 12:14 am
@Usivius – Mom didn’t marry Dad for his cooking skills either. This June will start their 54th year of matrimony.
And from what I’ve observed, Marriage is part compromise, part communication and a lot of love towards each other. Never have been able to find Mr. Right, but with *that* standard in front of me, I got picky!
; >
p.s. to Karl: great work! I keep coming back because of what you put up every week!
May 27th, 2010 at 12:19 am
Take your time! It’s all Good!
May 27th, 2010 at 12:29 pm
Out of curiosity, how many orders have you received for sketched editions?
May 27th, 2010 at 12:37 pm
@Maincranium – I’ve got just over 300 Master Editions to sketch in at the moment, which I’m working on. Right. Now…
May 27th, 2010 at 1:33 pm
I love this strip! XD Every panel is hilarious in its own way.
May 27th, 2010 at 1:39 pm
I have to say that the dialogue in this comic, a thing that so many other comics try and try to do right but end up botching, is second to none. I commend you Karl.

I love reading the posts from all the people who just discovered this strip. The cool thing about this strip is that amazed feeling never goes away.
May 30th, 2010 at 3:42 pm
Hey,
Just wanted to say that this is one of the best comics (web or otherwise) that i’ve ever come across. I wasn’t sure to start off with, but i thought it was quirky and decided to give it a go.
I’m so glad i did. I fell in love with Charles and Townsen (i cried like an angry hungry baby when he died), the art is never less than flawless and the characters are always worth a giggle.
The only thing i would like to see more of, is the cinematic/panoramic story telling. It all seems to be in newspaper strip format but it would be interesting if some of the panels are exploded in the book edition.
Anyways, enough rambling, just wanted to say awesome work and keep it coming!
ciao

300??? Uh oh, I’m in for a wait. ;)
May 31st, 2010 at 6:57 pm
whoo-ee, got the book, it is beautiful.
funny, it just occurred to me now, the bird is like the jay in the last unicorn.
May 31st, 2010 at 9:42 pm
I just found this Comic and read all of it in one sitting and I love it!!!
June 1st, 2010 at 11:50 am
300?! Blimey… looks like I might have to put a forwarding address for my house since we’re moving soon and with postal times from Canada to UK likely being a month or so, seems there is a reasonable chance we will have moved before it gets here.
Still can’t wait though :P *Hugs poppa bird* You are so awesome :D

Just wanted to say I got my regular pre-order book today. It’s absolutely gorgeous, all that hard work has paid off, Karl! Now I’ll have to wait for volume 2, once the webcomic progresses that far
June 2nd, 2010 at 9:28 am
@Karl, 300 sketches, huh? Well, that sounds fun. ;-)
Well, I’m glad that you’ve seen so much demand for the book, you certainly deserve it.
June 2nd, 2010 at 3:23 pm
I am so out-of-bounds excited to see what you sketch in my book! I hold my breath every day when I check the mail even though I know it’s way too soon to expect it!
June 2nd, 2010 at 3:25 pm
@ Ketira
LOL.. totally agree. married nearly 10 years ..(geez! 10!!! honestly, feels like 2 or 3). Compromise is true and a relaxed attitude towards the small stuff…
“all you need is love” (if y’know what I mean… nudgenudgewinkwin saynomore..)
June 2nd, 2010 at 3:26 pm
ignore me again.
:)
June 2nd, 2010 at 10:26 pm
Out of curiosity… how exactly do birds cook?
June 4th, 2010 at 2:41 pm
That bird on the left is a bit rude. He doesn’t wait for his pal to finish the question in the last panel before interrupting.
