Where’s My Book?
Hi, everyone! A bunch of you have been emailing me to ask where your book is, so I put together a small video to help explain.
The books were slated to begin shipping on May 12, and they did! We started our initial batch on that day and have been fulfilling orders ever since. In fact, as of the end of this week, if you ordered one of the Regular Editions (without a sketch) it will have shipped and you should have it in your hands as soon as Canada Post can get it to you.
If you ordered a Master Edition, the story is a bit different. I didn’t expect the volume of sketch editions ordered and because I only had the book in my hands a week before the shipping began, they’re backlogged. I’m doing my best to get them drawn and out the door!
So, I apologize for the delay. But I think you’ll be pretty happy with the sketch once you get it – in terms of quality, they’re pretty much the same level of drawing I do for the actual strip. Each one is a random character from the comic, and I put a lot of love into them. You can watch me drawing one in the video above.
Again, thanks for your patience and your support!
-karl

Hi Karl!
Thanks for sharing this great video.
I hope to see the book arriving soon. I am very curious to see, what character is in my copy!
Keep up the good work.
Best regards

That’s a beautiful one that I’m sure somebody is going to be happy to receive. Thanks for posting an update and a behind the scenes look.

They will be entirely worth the wait, of that I’m certain.
Thank you so much for this video, it’s wonderful to see you draw, and with such confidence and speed! I should have failed such a task altogether: I would have to stop working just to do the drawings, or the books would never get sent at all. (I did recently sign one thousand etchings, but that’s nothing to this)

Thanks so much – sorry if it seemed like I was being all expectant when I asked earlier – I’ve just had neighbours steal mail from me before and wanted to make sure I hadn’t missed it :D
Thanks so much for all the hard work you do, I can’t wait to see it in person… so beautiful.

Hey Karl! I got my master edition just yesterday and I love it! The drawing inside (of Charles and a bee!) is fantastic. Thanks so much for all your hard work and the love you obviously put into this comic. :D
June 9th, 2010 at 5:54 pm
Thanks for sharing the video. I was just expecting a quick doodle in my book but this is so much better! Definitely worth the wait and I’m excited to see which character will live in my book :)
June 9th, 2010 at 7:30 pm
Oh, that is definitely worth waiting for!
June 9th, 2010 at 7:37 pm
Hey Karl – really nice! I’m in no hurry to get my book. I really appreciate the time you’re putting into the sketches. Glad to hear you got more orders than you anticipated – TACC is my favorite web comic so it’s great to hear it’s doing well and finding a well-deserved large audience.
June 9th, 2010 at 8:56 pm
Wow! Karl, thats a very generous level of quality you’re putting into these sketches. By the time you get through all 400, you’ll be able to draw the entire cast with your eyes closed. Thanks for putting so much into these.
Can’t wait to see who’s in mine!
June 9th, 2010 at 9:18 pm
A joy to watch!
(I hope Cousteau is doing his share of the work)
June 10th, 2010 at 12:39 am
I’m so excited! I hope I receive it before I leave for vacation! Your work is just masterful <33
June 10th, 2010 at 3:12 am
I received my regular edition today! Both you and Mr. Stone are wonderful [: (I was paranoid because I have mail stealing neighbors too). I just finished rereading the story and I love that I was finally able to see some of the smaller details of each strip that I missed on the web version. Thank you for all of the hard work n__n

Take your time, Karl. I’m thrilled for you to hear how much demand there was for special edition books. I’m very much looking forward to seeing my copy, but I’m more than willing to wait for the kind of quality you’re providing us fans.

My wife bought me this as a birthday present (7th June). I am still waiting and more than happy to do so. Thank you for the tears and laughter. Hopefully there will be a happy ever after. Keep up the incredibly entertaining work.
June 10th, 2010 at 8:24 am
I wasn’t ordering one originally but seeing that sketch made me drool, sorry man… I’m adding another one to your pile of master editions!!!
June 10th, 2010 at 12:02 pm
No complaints here. I’m eager to get my book, but happy to wait for the sketch.
June 10th, 2010 at 12:55 pm
Thanks for sharing this with us Karl – really fascinating and beautiful to watch your creations come to life.
June 10th, 2010 at 2:16 pm
Thanks so much for this video, Karl. I knew you had to be busy with all the sketches, so I wasn’t concerned about mine, but it stunned me to hear the actual number of sketches you had to do. On top of that, I don’t know why, but I didn’t expect the type of quality for the sketches that we would normally see in your comics. This video just made me even more excited to get my book! But, I’m still waiting as patiently as I can. =) It was a delight to watch you and see exactly what you do to create your masterpieces every week. Thanks again.

Hi Karl,
As others have said, the work is worth the wait. Thanks for letting us know how it’s going. Seems like getting so many orders for the book with the sketch is an equal blessing and curse. :)
June 10th, 2010 at 10:26 pm
I am so psyched to both read this story and see the sketch. I’m curious, I had made a request regarding the sketch in my order. Any chance that it will be read and considered? Thanks for all of your work!!
June 10th, 2010 at 11:03 pm
Just got my signed edition today. Some thoughts:
That felt cover … So soft … Love the way the light plays on it, almost like seeing sunlight between leaves as you’re walking through a forest.
That print should be a poster. Beautifully drawn and coloured (and Townsen!).
The sketch should not be called a sketch. That’s a full on illustration, and it’s gorgeous (I got the lion, but not the same one from the video above. Equally as amazing though). the video actually doesn’t fully do justice to how much detail is in this thing.
Print reproduction of the strips is beautiful. Very lush.
The titles in the back is a nice touch.
Dramatis Animae … Ummm … Did we know about this beforehand? It is STUNNING! I can’t stop staring at it. Laughed at the look on the lion’s face. Love the crab and the raccoons. LOVE the look on Townsen’s face!
This is way beyond what I was expecting! I mean, I knew it’d be great, but wasn’t expecting this level of quality.
Thanks so much for this Karl! Can’t wait for the next volume!
June 11th, 2010 at 1:57 am
I too am very excited to see which character ends up in my copy (though I will love anything I’m holding out a secret hope that by random chance it will include a bee!). I am awed by the level of work and detail you are putting into making each one beautiful and meaningful – a perfect parallel to the work you share with us each week. Very much worth the wait.
June 11th, 2010 at 2:45 am
has anybody in the states received theirs yet? i’m anxiously waiting in texas for my regular edition!
June 11th, 2010 at 11:38 am
I’m more than happy to wait for mine, especially after seeing how gorgeous the sketch in your video looks. Just one question – will you be sending shipment notifications? I only ask because I preordered mine knowing that I would be moving (but not to where), so I had it shipped to my office. I was just hoping I would know when to start keeping an eye out for it. Either way, I can’t wait to see it!
June 11th, 2010 at 8:32 pm
Take ALL the time you need. I’m excited about getting mine, but I’m MORE excited that you’re taking the time to really do them right. So I can wait.
June 13th, 2010 at 12:14 am
I’ve been up in the air about which version to order, and this video has made up my mind – as soon as I can, I’ll be ordering the Master Edition – no matter how long the waiting period to get it is by then.
Good things really do come to those who wait! =)
June 13th, 2010 at 12:22 am
Karl. I just got my book and I love the sketch. I thought I would take a pic and share it with everyone in case you didnt take one. I will send it to you and you can post them if you like.
June 13th, 2010 at 1:44 am
Karl,
You put a lot into these sketches. Well worth the extra whatever it was. Wish I had the extra dough but looking forward to your book just the same.
June 13th, 2010 at 3:15 am
I so love watching something done well. The finished piece is a work of art, and the process itself is magical. Thank you for posting this video.
June 14th, 2010 at 5:05 pm
What you’ve made there is utterly beautiful – halfway through the video I found myself saying “Don’t do any more to it, you’ll ruin it!” (but maybe that’s why you’re the artist here).
It is wonderful to see someone put so much care and attention into something you could have just scribbled in half a minute. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent with us all.
June 15th, 2010 at 7:17 pm
Hey Karl,
I want to put a link up on my site to yours. Mind sending me an ad? 234×60 would be super.
June 16th, 2010 at 9:53 am
Wow, i know your orders are piling up but i seriously want one of these! esp after seeing this video! you are a fantastic artist and this comic is seriously amazing work. thanks for sharing this with the world!
June 16th, 2010 at 10:12 am
Karl,
PLEASE take your time on the sketches! I think I can speak for a lot of fans when I say we would rather wait a bit and have a nice sketch than something rushed. Thanks for keeping the fans in the loop and keep up the good work.
:-)
June 16th, 2010 at 10:47 am
Karl, got my book on Friday (the 11th) and it’s awesome. The sketch is absolutely beautiful (you gave us an otter). You could have thrown something quick on there and I would have been happy but with all the effort you put in I’m blown away.
Great Job!
June 17th, 2010 at 9:18 am
Oh wow! Take as long as you want Karl. If that’s what you’re putting into each and every one…just wow. Thank you. Although you have now raised my levels of excitement to an unsustainable level and I fear some kind of haemorrhage is inevitable!
June 21st, 2010 at 2:42 pm
Just got my Master Edition here in Wilmington, Delaware. I can’t even begin to describe how incredible the “sketch” is. I got the raccoon, it’s it’s unbelievable. Thanks so much for putting so much time and care into this project.
June 21st, 2010 at 10:21 pm
Just got my regular edition today! This book completely exceeded my expectations, it’s definitely getting a special place in my bookcase. Thanks so much, Karl!
June 23rd, 2010 at 2:29 pm

June 24th, 2010 at 12:15 pm
Karl -
You can’t rush greatness, so feel free to take as long as necessary. And something tells me that its arrival will just happen to be when I need it most!
VERY Excited!!
June 28th, 2010 at 7:48 pm
I wonder it you will accept any further purchases on the Master Edition. The sketch in the video is marvellous, well worth the extra, at least in my opinion.
June 30th, 2010 at 3:32 pm
That is one bad-ass lion! Makes me regret not buying a master edition even though it’s pretty expensive for me :(
But if they become available again I don’t think I will be able to pass up the opportunity to buy one…
July 6th, 2010 at 8:18 am
Just got the book, and it’s lovely. You drew the most stunning illustration of Vivol in mine.
I could have gone and picked it up in person at the TX office as I live in the Montréal area!
Thank you for this.
July 10th, 2010 at 10:53 pm
Hi Karl!
I just received my Master Edition today. Its truly amazing! In your career you’ve done so much to be proud of, but this book and this story is something very special! Thank you so much!

Just remembered I ordered one of these too… But I think mine is one of the last so I’ll be patient!
August 17th, 2010 at 9:22 am
Hey – I just got my master edition in the mail yesterday, and it was really, really, really worth the wait! It was also really special to sit down and share this story with my wife, who was reading it for the first time. And the cherry on top was that my illustration is of Townsen! Thanks for doing this strip every week, it’s amazing what you’ve created.
August 18th, 2010 at 2:38 pm
Glad to hear these are still trickling out, I ordered on the last day of preorders and am still waiting. Getting a little nervous…
August 18th, 2010 at 8:34 pm
I’m patient, but I always check the mail twice these days. Moo.
August 26th, 2010 at 11:27 pm
Thank you so much for the drawing I got in my copy of the book. You set yourself up for a hell of a task to fulfill, spending 20(?) minutes times about 400 hundred book copies. But it’s inspiring to see someone actually complete such a massive project. It was exciting to find out what chance would decide my picture would be. The drawing I got was of my favorite carefree raccoon. There is a lot of love in that book and I’m so glad I got it. Keep truckin’ Karl. I love your characters, and your storytelling. You’re a big inspiration to me for my own storytelling. Cheers.

Coming up on four months since I ordered, nearly two months since the last update, and still no book. Sad panda!
