The Pointer Always Sniffs Twice
Fun Fact: This dog is based on my old dog, Kara. She was a German Wire-Haired Pointer and a wonderful friend. My family’s current dog, Suma, is also a Wire-Haired Pointer, but you’d never know it because she doesn’t have the same wiry muzzle and scruff associated with the breed. She looks more like a Short-Haired Pointer, actually.
Now you know!

Sometimes it’s hard to read the dialogue because the art is so good. But then I read the dialogue and it’s just as good.
Thanks, Karl, for such a wonderful comic.
I also love Charles’s face in the last panel.

Hide behind a cow, Charles, quick!
(moo?)
August 4th, 2010 at 8:13 pm
i was gunna ask what breed of dog that was–but i thought that was a tad nerdy of me. that’s for offering up the info pro bono!

i first read ur comic about a month back, and since then ive been rushing to ur site every wednesday.i love the story telling and pacing, and how sometimes the strip can totally change focus to characters are just so delightful! how do u go about doing the charcter designs, coz u mix real animal anatomy with cartoon-ish-ness.
once, again, i love ur work.(which i realize i cud have just said instead of writing the above para.)

August 4th, 2010 at 9:09 pm
aw it’s the fuzz! cheese it!
August 4th, 2010 at 9:21 pm
Charles getting smaller. The pooch is half his size.
August 4th, 2010 at 9:23 pm
charles looks so vulnerable in the first panel.
so cuddly.
i like seeing him evolve as the comic grows on you.
August 4th, 2010 at 9:35 pm
the story is so exciting! I just can’t wait to see what happens next.
August 4th, 2010 at 9:46 pm

August 4th, 2010 at 10:24 pm
Who’s coming?
August 4th, 2010 at 11:46 pm
It’s the Po-lese. Book it!
August 5th, 2010 at 1:23 am
Darn it! Now I’ll never know what the people behind the wall are more likely to do.
Extra points for the puzzled cow (Moo?) in the second panel, and for Charles’ clasped hands in the last panel.

Karl, you’re being a tease! I can’t believe Charles is finally going to see a human and you give us a cliffhanger.
August 5th, 2010 at 12:51 pm
we have never seen a human in the whole series… have we?…
This should be interesting…
August 5th, 2010 at 1:19 pm
I waited all week for my dose of ACC, and now I have to wait another week . .BWAHH!!!
love it Karl, I flinched when the dog told Charles to hide! We going to see a human?
August 5th, 2010 at 3:35 pm
I wonder if Charles can understand humans. I mean, the animals talk to each other but there’s no indication that the humans know about it. Very Beatrix-Potter-ish.

It looks like the dog is injured, he’s.. missing a leg. Did you take the leg? I mean, did you try to take the dog to the hospital after this incident?
…sorry. Couldn’t resist the Blackout plug. Dog just reminds me of Tripod, though he doesn’t look like a Pooshep… Beautiful strip Karl. I can’t wait to see more of it.
August 6th, 2010 at 1:11 am
The leg isn’t missing, there’s a motion line underneath it, it’s just lifted up, pointing backwards as he’s walking
August 6th, 2010 at 2:49 am
Aah, I see it now. My eyes are not what they used to be. >_<;;
August 6th, 2010 at 3:10 am
So am I wrong, but if it holds out as I think it will, might we possibly be going to see our first ‘on screen’ shot of a human in this comic next week? Don’t recall having seen one in person so to speak so far, not full on at least.
August 6th, 2010 at 10:10 pm
Bring me back
August 6th, 2010 at 11:28 pm
I predict a shot of the human from dog’s-eye perspective. From the knees down and from the back or side; nothing that shows a recognizable individual.
Karl, I figure you have your own solid vision of what happens plus several weeks of buffer; nothing I say here is gonna influence what we see next. Now we’ll see how wrong I can be.

Tried to set up an account with “Charlie” as the user name – wonder why that was already taken? I’ll have a better avatar when I can get back to my other computer.
August 9th, 2010 at 3:15 pm
Impossibly, it just keeps getting better and better.
August 10th, 2010 at 4:32 pm
I remember Kara…she was lovely.

I am constantly amazed at the art and emotion of Abominable Charles Christopher. I have begun trying to help several of my favorite webcomics to rank higher on TopWebComics. Dude, you need a vote button somewhere on this page. Your TWC rank is somewhere down in the 600′s, and they don’t even have the correct URL to click through to the comic. I know, it’s not your highest priority, but your fans want to see you on top, where you belong.

German Wire hairs are awesome! My doctor has them and when I’d get banged up and taken to his house I’d pet the dogs while he sewed up little me. They’re kind of a ‘best kept secret’ type of breed.

[...] The Pointer Always Sniffs Twice – Karl Kerschl’s The Abominable Charles Christopher. I love drawing dogs. This is from earlier in the month, the current strip is The Story of Vivol & Moon Bear – part seven. [...]

My dog has only three legs.
Whenever he pees, he falls over.
