Left-Winger
This pretty much encapsulates all of my experiences playing organized sports. Or any team-based anything, really.

this is why I always played the defense positions. at least then you KNOW the ball is heading for you
January 18th, 2012 at 5:55 pm
I appreciate how it says “Be Sociable, Share!” right under your post about any team-based activities.
January 18th, 2012 at 5:58 pm
I can really relate to this …
January 18th, 2012 at 6:07 pm
This makes me think of Calvin and Hobbes, and Calvin’s attitude toward team sports. That’s pretty much the highest praise I can offer any comic strip.
January 18th, 2012 at 6:12 pm
Otters? Otters! They were promised, and they have been delivered. And for that, I’m off to buy a print…
January 18th, 2012 at 6:16 pm
I like his whiskers :3
January 18th, 2012 at 6:17 pm
wait wait are they playing otter polo i am delighted
January 18th, 2012 at 6:25 pm
wow, it’s me!
January 18th, 2012 at 6:46 pm
Wait what is the ball made of? It looks fuzzy.
January 18th, 2012 at 7:31 pm
I, too, am rather curious about that ball. Is it a critter? A moss-covered rock(ouch)? Maybe a bundle of foliage?
Maybe we’re not supposed to know.
January 18th, 2012 at 7:51 pm
Ha! I suspect Karl watched that video of otters madly chasing a butterfly on Cuteoverload.com!
January 18th, 2012 at 8:31 pm
Such a familiar feeling.
January 18th, 2012 at 8:51 pm
At least ya didn’t make anybody cry this week.
January 18th, 2012 at 8:52 pm
Dodgeball anyone? Uuuggh… Bad memories. I’ve always wondered why schools are so hellbent on teaching only group sports, when so many kids clearly would rather cycle, swim or do yoga.
Karl, is it possible to buy the ACC book somewhere in Montreal? I’m trying to dodge the shipping fees…
January 18th, 2012 at 9:01 pm
Am I the only ACC fan who LOVES the competition and camaraderie of team sports! No hockey players out there reading this great strip?
Even though Charles is on a singular, solitary quest, we’ve seen him pick up some friends on the way, and dare I say it, a teammate most recently?
January 18th, 2012 at 9:42 pm
Carl….god how you make me laugh!
January 18th, 2012 at 9:44 pm
My bad….Karl!
January 19th, 2012 at 1:06 am
this is so cute! ha. totally made my hump day even better!
January 19th, 2012 at 6:29 am
OTTERS! Northern river otters? They’re not the ones we have in California, I don’t think – ours are fuzzy like sea otters.
January 19th, 2012 at 11:39 am
Yush! That’s me! I was always terrified the ball was going to come my way.
January 19th, 2012 at 12:10 pm
@Cesare, well Gilgamesh could play goalie, he already has the mask.
January 19th, 2012 at 12:11 pm
love that second panel
January 19th, 2012 at 1:03 pm
This is almost me. If the otters hadn’t just run over the guy and basically ignored him, and instead stopped to berate him for his lack of athletic acumen… then yeah. That would be me exactly.
January 19th, 2012 at 3:05 pm
That looks like me in huttball in the SW:TOR game. Except I get pummeled by light sabers.
January 19th, 2012 at 3:06 pm
@CptnSpldng, Right!
January 20th, 2012 at 12:44 am
My first reaction to the ball was that it was an osage orange:

Spent around an hour watching Asian Short-Clawed otters play some ottery version of football using a shell last year. The game came to an end when one of them stole the shell and began a twenty-minute juggling session with it, lying on his back and kicking it from paw to paw… watching them was a brilliant way to pass the time!
January 20th, 2012 at 9:56 am
so otter water polo?
January 20th, 2012 at 11:02 am
@Snowpea AUGH! CuteOverload is nearly as dangerous as TvTropes!
January 20th, 2012 at 12:43 pm
@weslar, more like otter Calvinball.
January 20th, 2012 at 2:55 pm
THIS WAS ME.
Except instead of a chestnut, it was a rubber kickball, and instead of lounging in the water, I was reading a book I had snuck out under my coat. But yeah, totally clueless, bounced off my head, big embarrassment.
Amazing, Karl. Thanks.
January 21st, 2012 at 4:28 am
I just watched this video of otters chasing a butterfly
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJoCulItdxg&feature=player_embedded
Karl’s depiction of otters at play is pretty much spot on.

@kwestion & Garret Williams: I assumed it was one of these things:

Hehehe that face he makes when he gets bonked on the head makes me giggle and giggle and giggle
January 23rd, 2012 at 10:50 am
@CaptainSpalding (i added the vowels back) Calvinball always seemed like a great game, though I would have liked to see it from the perspective of everyone else who saw Hobbes as stuffed.
January 25th, 2012 at 12:36 am
Knocked the hell outta him!
January 25th, 2012 at 1:58 am
I had to go to “Le College Notre Dame” (you know, the one right in front of St Joseph’s Oratory on Queen Mary boulevard) when my first College closed. At the time they had two hours of sports each day. Two hours! I hated sports. I love this strip.
January 25th, 2012 at 12:55 pm
Could be a Charles Schultz strip. With artful otters!
